Irish, you do us honor to share this news with us.
You'll do him honor by standing there, squared away.
Thank you for your sacrifice; please carry our gratitude and respect to his family for his.

Fuck 'em all but nine:

Six for pallbearers,

Two for road guards,

And one to count cadence.

hey brother - i am sitting here, alone in the dark, smoking a bowl to you and your spotter. Although I don't know you or he, you are my friends and brother. I am grateful for those willing to wear the uniform of our country. God Bless you and yours. It's ok to weep for the lost and for those that remain.

Christ have mercy. God have mercy.
My prayers are with you and your comrade, Irish.
Please be strong for the family members and loved ones he left behind.

We can only stand in humble thankfulness

with bowed and uncovered head

when passes by the warrior

who walks with honour

where we fear to tread.

when you get back, head to your local American Legion post or VFW post, there are men there who understand and have been there. and they will listen to you vent and maybe shed a tear or two with you. do not let survivor's remorse eat your guts out. i am hearing a bit of it just in the words you used. there is a reason WHY you are still alive my friend, embrace it, do not question it.
good luck, brother, and may G_d bless you and yours along with your spotter and his family.

Irish my brother , when you called to tell me about this , I was staining an old pipe bowl . I stopped after your call and shed a tear . I haven done that in a while . I hope you arrive home safe and with a since of peace . My prayers are with you . If you need me , you know I'm here for you . May God bless you and the family of your spotter . We never know when it's our time to be called home , but that is what makes it hard . Stay strong my friend .

I will say a prayer for both of you. I know your service member's family will be comforted by your being able to attend services.

Well I finally arrived. I drove through a blizzard but made it. He doesn't have any family but his funeral arrangements are all set up. He wants to be cremated. So the service will be tomorrow. Not looking forward to hearing those shots ring out. When I get home and get bills caught up there is a pipe I would like to get in his memory. Thank you all for the kind words and prayers.
