The Benefits of Having Children

Well I really wanted to be a grandad one day and figured the only path there was through fatherhood...kind of like how as a kid I always looked forwards to retirement, and realised I would have to have work life first in order to get there. I think I have always been an old man.

For cute around the house, I have a wife. Cats are hell beasts, of which we have several. I trust the outdoor cat much more than the indoor cats. I trust nothing that shits in a box.

I got bad news for you about wives then. They pretend to use a toilet but they use a box too.

My wife could not and cannot have children. We would have liked to. She would be the best mother in the world. We are 6 siblings, one died at the age of 54. My maternal grandmother had 9 children. I believe that having children is a blessing from God. The foundation of the universe. I only have one male parakeet, he recently killed the female, because he wanted extreme sex. He is still grieving, so I bought him a mirror, so he won't be lonely, and I play Kenny Rogers music for him.

My son is going to be two in January. My wife and I both affirmatively wanted kids. Why? Well it wasn’t some biological urge to “want to hold a baby” and I don’t really think it was that for my wife either. She says that could come up in her after holding someone else’s baby but she could beat that feeling down pretty quick lol. Nor was it any type of religious imperative for us as we are irreligious.

Mostly I think we just took a long view of what we wanted in ten, twenty, and thirty years and realized that yes we want kids and that we don’t want to wait too long to do it. My wife took four months maternity leave after birth and after that I became the stay at home parent. Not ashamed to say my wife made far more money than me and had the less “flexible” career. I went from being a chef 60 hours a week to picking up maybe two or three bar shifts a week and mostly just being a dad. It’s definitely the most challenging but also most rewarding thing I’ve done. But it also gave me some distance and made me realize I never want to work in a damn restaurant again unless I own it and I’m getting some training in a new field currently. We want at least one and not more than two additional children. Probably going to get started on that soon.

I meant, the parakeet likes Kenny Rogers music, or so I think. In any case, I'm glad I made your day, friend. The poor female laid on different dates, a total of 9 eggs, plus the male peck her head off, leaving her featherless. One day she just couldn't take it anymore and died. Since she listens to Kenny Rogers, she is a better bird, and regrets the murder.
