Here are some pretty traditional Rhodesians I recently restored. I prefer the saddle bit as I find it more comfortable in the teeth. I'm not a big clencher but there are times when I need my hands free. I have several Pete's (Rodies & Bulls) and they all smoke well. Breaking them in isn't always pleasant. Peterson sometimes dip the pipes in stain which coats the inside of the bowl. It takes a few smokes to get the taste out but it's worth it. Enjoy

Bulldogs are bad, Rhodesians are worse. GBD 9438s, 9242s, and Comoy 498 & 499s will actually melt your face and steal your soul.
Why don't you try a nice billiard? :)

Trust Forums members to get right to the bottom of a question. I like Rhodesians and bulldogs with bead lines, though occasionally a pipe comes along without a bead line that is pretty nicely shaped. (Back to the bottoms...no back to pipes.) The Dr. Grabow Royalton bulldog is a factory pipe, and an inexpensive one, but with some pretty sophisticated shaping. I fancy it is one of the stars of the Dr. Grabow line. You can turn it into a no-filter pipe with a Savenelli adaptor, if that is a consideration. It's a good intro to the bulldog shape at a sweet price. Also, look at Johs pipes. He occasionally does great bulldogs with plenty of bowl without building a heavy weight pipe. I have one I really enjoy. But there's plenty to select from, all the way up the price line. Bob Hayes, the N.C. carver, has done some striking bullldogs, with blast above the bead line and smooth below, one I especially remember in a kind of cream beige. My mistake walking away from that one, at a great price at a pipe show. Okay, back to those bikinis.

I am a big fan of Rhodesians because of how they smoke my flakes. There is something about how the shape of the bowl seems to keep the tobacco smoking on it's own. My first one is this Rad Davis below and after that I grabbed 2 Bruce Weaver Rhody's, A Jody Davis, another Rad Davis and an Abe Herbaugh. I am always on the lookouut for more Rhody's but am not a fan of the Bulldog. Somethin about the Bulldog shape just doesn't do anything for me, not really sure why.

You gentlemen have me looking forward to the delivery of my Dracula Rhodesian. I'm sure I'm going to like it a lot. Can an Irish Harp version be far away, he asks rhetorically?

I don't think I can say there's another shape like a traditional Rhodesian that hangs quite as well, bent bulldogs a very close second. Al does bring a very, very strong point to the table with that specimen of lovely he posted. The pipes ain't bad either.

I wonder what is the origin for the Rhodisian title, and why the bead lines. Frankly, the bead lines are what kept me from trying Rhodisians for so long. They seem rather unnecessary.

The Rhodesian shape is my favorite after billard and bulldog.
I was lucky to see in person an amazing 1918 BBB Rhodesian in Chicago Pipe Show this year, which I loved immediately.

As long as the stem was wide, thin, and had a curve I have never seen a Rhodesian that did not appeal to me. I like bulldogs too though.
Cgrmaster, I have told you before but will repeat it again, that is a butt kickin pipe!

Sorry, I guess ssjones put butts on my mind.
Sparrowhawk, I think the bead lines helps set off the shape of the bowl in Rhodesians and bulldogs. Either pipe, to me, without bead lines look knobby, by comparison.
