Thought I'd take the time to share my appreciation for the aroma of the tobacco shop. You step Inside and this glorious aroma engulfs your nostrils. It's a smell of comfort and warmth. Hints of Coffee & Chacolate. It's the best aroma in the world. It would be my dream to own a tobacco shop, so I could bask in this aroma all day. It would be an absolute dream.

Well the shops near me are mainly Cigar oriented, but also sell pipe tobacco. I tell the guy in their he's the luckiest alive. He says yep living the dream. And I bet he is man.

I very much miss the aroma of a tobacconist's, they barely exist here now.

I had a summer job after leaving school and before starting a career, doing the early morning shift in a newsagents, making up the bags for the paper delivery kids and serving the early customers their papers, cigs, tobacco - the place was small and the scent of tobacco was luscious.

Newspapers used to come in "quires", batches of 24 or 26 depending on the title. Never did find where that name came from or what determined the number (I think it was the Telegraph had 26) - it's lost lore, Internet searches have been fruitless.

There aren't any actual tobacconists in my area . Our's are smoke & beer shops .

More of a convenience store atmosphere .
This is the problem I have around here, as well. Of course, I can go to Nashville, forty miles away and enjoy the smells and aromas, but that's a bit of a drive. Since I have retired, I don't go into the city very often.

I have the same euphoric experience.

I remember that feeling walking into a cigar/pipe store with my brother as a kid. My brother was there to buy cigarettes but my 6 y/o self loved the open the jars of pipe tobacco and stick my head inside. Those old guys who worked there didn't seem to care as i went though the entire collection of jars, opening and smelling each one.

Years later I bought my first pipe at that same little tobacco shop in the mall.

I have a similar euphoric experience with fresh ground coffee.

Our sense of smell can invoke strong emotions that cannot be translated into words.

It is a wonderful smell indeed. I've only been to one proper shop, and it definitely has the good smells. Take it in as much as you can, these shops are becoming more rare as time passes.

ISTR that a quire is 1/20th of a ream - so 25 sheets for a 500 sheet ream. I think ream sizes vary depending on the type of paper or its use.
