Typically when I order from Europe it goes through customs in NYC.
Customs anywhere is a crapshoot though.

On rare occasion I have to order, either directly or through sub-contract, non-typical materials from overseas. I know that how the shipper filled out the paperwork can have a huge impact coming through customs in these instances.

What I don't know is if there is any difference between large and small values and something like pipe vs tobacco when coming through customs.

I also know country of original can play a role. It is (or was) much easier and faster to get $100K in stone through customs vs India or Pakistan. This, I think has more to do with trade agreements between the countries than anything else.

My tobacco was declared and it sailed right through.

I’ve ordered a multitude of pipe and non-pipe related merchandise from Europe and it seems like customs is completely random when it comes to timeliness.
I’d say 70% of the time it only takes a couple days at most.

That 30% of the time though.. It can take weeks.
