Great post. Thank you to Sutliff and all it's employees. Your contributions are very appreciated.
I'll miss 507C Virginia Slices; 707 Sweet Virginia, Match Victorian, Sail Yellow Match, Sugar Bucket, and TS-20 Louisiana Perique.

I do agree that, we can lament the closing of Sutliff, and we should to an extent. But in the end we need to accept reality, and appreciate the companies and blenders that are still around. Besides, who knows what the future holds. Maybe Per Jensen will create some new magic with another blender.

Sutliff will be missed dearly here. Thanks to Jeremy and the entire Sutliff team for making our TAD possible over then many years.

Without Sutliff, we would not have all the wonderful blends from WCC and KBV (along with many other independent blenders like Emerson Southern).

Clearly the last-min TAD hording at TP now has a disclaimer on their website.

Please note that all orders are subject to availability. Due to factors such as inventory updates & limited product availability, certain items may occasionally become unavailable. If this occurs, we will issue a refund for the affected items. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience & appreciate your understanding.

I will definitely miss Sutliff and their extensive portfolio of 'goopy aromatics' . I was working my way through their line up and trying them, a 1oz sample here and there. Most of what I tried was pretty good. All hit the mark flavor wise, vanilla, Raspberry, cherry etc. Now that their gone who is going to make me a pistachio flavored pipe tobacco when I get the hankering? Luckily I do have some tins of their excellent Sutliff 1849, and some of their matches put away to enjoy.

That’s a good post. Regardless of the last week, there’s a lot of history there.
I think it’s the last of the Richmond factories, so yeah, let’s look at the bigger picture and thank them for what they’ve been.
Altria (Philip Morris) still manufactures cigarettes in Richmond, but it’s certainly the end of an era for the city's tobacco legacy. Even just surrounding Sutliff are the bones of Manchester tobacco manufacturing/storage/research, most recently renovated as apartments, but long removed from tobacco. Will be difficult to see it go the way of the others, but pretty wonderful it kept on through all the change around it.
