I wish Western Civilization would collapse already. These whiny bitch sessions filled with all the interminable sameness of hive mind thought kidding itself that it's independent and critical in its thinking or onto a greater truth are really boring. Bring on the kool aid and let's get this over and done with.

"I wish Western Civilization would collapse already."

Posting hate to destroy a thread ("let's get this over and done with"), in order to prohibit other people's ability to have a discussion is a disgusting tactic.

You could join a communist country. You have made it clear that you've accumulated the funds to move.

I like living in a country where everyone is recognized as being sovereign, not just the wealthy.
Where our government gets the idea that they have authority over smoking originates from their power to regulate interstate commerce. The idea that have the power to affect our lifestyle choices comes from socialism and socialized healthcare. The author of the Original Post article claims to be for freedom, yet he confessed to drafting legislation to ban smoking in private clubs because of his beliefs. His actions contradict his claimed political beliefs.

their remedy is ALWAYS to use government power to take money/resources by force from INDIVIDUALS.
This is the heart of the matter imo. If people want some kind of “socialist” system, go right ahead and start some type of collective organization or commune or something...as long as it’s voluntary. Just don’t try to use the government to force me to participate at gun point.

Some politics is allowed in the legislation section of this forum. I believe the rule is to keep it factual and considerate of the fact that there are many different people on this forum. I only see one poster that is acting as Agent Provocateur. Laws are being imposed on citizens of the U.K. and the writer is espousing Libertarianism. His claim is open to evaluation, and clarity of politics was needed due to his claim.

Lazar: Your statement about Sweden (and Finland is on the very same way)is more than true, In my youth I even couldn't imagine how our government regulations (constant new rules and stupid innovations)are badly affecting on our everyday life today.

Paulie66scandinavian: Are the government regulations badly affecting everyday life or is it as Lazar said the EU(Sweden) the Happiest place on Earth? Sounds like a paradox, or A misunderstanding of Lazar's comment. Just wondering...for clarification.

Here is a short timeline of Finish tobacco policy. The 2016 Tobacco looks like it includes Sweden, in addition to Finland. Although Sweden is currently encouraging the use of "less harmful products" like snus.
From World Medical Journal Feb. 1, 2014 On The Road To Tobacco-Free Finland

"Finland was one of the first countries to introduce a comprehensive Tobacco Control Act (TCA, adopted in 1976. came into force in 1977)"

"The new Finnish approach has changed the target from reducing to ending tobacco use altogether."

"We do not need any proof to justify our actions. We have a positive message and no need to defend our actions."

From the 2016 Finland Tobacco Act

Translation from Finnish

Legally binding only in Finnish and Swedish

Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, Finland

Tobacco Act

(549/2016)

Section 1

Objective of the Act

(1)The objective of this Act is to end the use of tobacco products and other nicotine-containing products that are toxic to humans and cause addiction.

(2)To achieve the objective referred to in subsection 1, this Act lays down measures to prevent people from taking up the use of tobacco products and developing a nicotine addiction, to promote the cessation of the consumption of tobacco products and similar products and to protect the population from exposure to smoke from such products.

From World Medical Journal Mar 1, 2017 Targeting Tobacco and Nicotine Free Finland by years 2030 Short communication

Finland was the first country in year 2010 to announce a task to eradicate the use of tobacco products by year 2040. The updated legislation in 2016 widened the objective to cover also nicotine-containing products and set the goal earlier by year 2030. As far as we know Finland is the first and the only country in the world to set endgame as the objective of the legislation and Tobacco Control Act (TCA).

"Smoke-free environment enlarged by TCA as housing cooperatives can apply for a ban on smoking on neighbouring balconies if smoke can spread to neighbour. This may be done if smoke is detected to be spread from someone’s private balcony and onto other spaces."

Thank You Mr Brightleaf, you brought this 2016 tobacco act up very aptly,

Perdurabo: mainly referring to tobacco use here, now it goes like our Government is doing all they can that citizens of this country would have very restricted access to any tobacco products, something like prescription drugs, for instance,Newspaper agents and groceries have to keep these products out of consumers eyes, and thereby, should you want to know what tobacco products the seller may have to offer, then you are to ask for a paper sheet on which all available brand names are printed,in addition to this, unlike Demark and Sweden,in Finland trade and online ordering of any form of snuff products is strictly forbid, only exclude is made for travelers returning from oversea destinations.

Gotcha.
From what you've described this must've cost businesses money to comply.
I've never understood this idea, where government is there to keep you safe from yourself. Kind of like this false narrative about The Opioid Crisis. So you like to take pain killers to get high, who am I to use the arm of government to stop you. Not only am I going to try and stop government from stopping you. I'm also going to make damn sure the government doesnt spend money on you, to get you off the opioids. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Lots of people seem to absolutely love the big government nanny state "taking care" of them. I guess freedom is scary for most folks. Plus, they seem to derive some kind of moral satisfaction by having government take money/resources by force from some people and redistribute it to others.

I really thought smoking ban/restriction laws were enacted in countries with socialized medical care because smoking related illness was viewed by bureaucrats as a "controllable cost" (the joyless so-and-sos). Can't find it now but I got some Health Canada stats on the cost of smoking related illness verses tobacco tax revenue and posted it here AND..... income exceeded expense by quite a bit! Lacking a financial motive I can't fathom the motivation for the legion of haters passing law after law after law against smoking.

They taught to this staring from their school years, Oh,and I forget adding,in order to minimize the income from tobacco product sells our government just come up with brand new direction,It declares, independent tobacconists are forbid to send them products to customers inland and overseas using postal or any other currier services. In my book this sounds as ruthless method in regards to business owners, moreover I had been informed the British government were starting discussions on this very subject as well, and nobody seems to care or defending those tobacconist, kinda like they've become some sort of outlaws.
