I did find some government reports on it. I was not aware of this before…

P.S. As for tea and smoking, I only occasionally drink Tulsi Tea.

I stay away from tea, other than this for now, since tea is acidic. For those sensitive, tea can irritate the mouth and tongue when pipe smoking.
Hot mate isn't mate.
but it is understandable that there are people who drink it like that.
But it's the same with any drink.

What do you mean Hot mate isn’t mate? Hot is just a serving style.

I know Mate is the most popular drink in Argentina, maybe when drank hot in Argentina, the locals simply refer to it as another name, is what you mean? 🧐

I typically drink it cold.

By chance is Guayaki popular in Argentina?

I love Yerba Mate… 👍

When I have a cup of tea I tend to actually go for a stronger blend, but I think that’s just me. I love a cup of Sleepytime or Earl Grey with a bowl of Irish Flake.

Problem with drinking a hot beverage during a smoke is, it cools. During spring and fall, I like a large mug of my favorite black tea with a smoke. But usually they are cold by the time I'm done. And I rarely smoke once sun goes down.
Hey mate that's fixable......get yourself a teapot and a tea cosy. Those tea costs do a darn good job. And get yourself possibly a smaller mug. My tea usually lasts for an hour or so with a bowl.

Of course mate is a hot drink, but it is prepared at a temperature that does not harm the mouth, nor of course the esophagus. Since I usually drink it at home, I do it at the correct temperature. Sometimes I prepare it for traveling when I go with my wife who makes it while I drive, then I might heat it a little more. In places like Uruguay, where people leave home for work, mate in hand and thermos under arm, and drink it on the way on public transportation, that is how common mate is in Uruguay, it is likely that the water is overheated so that it lasts at the right temperature and the first mates are drunk a little hotter. Cold mate is called Tereré, a Guarani word, and it is typical of northern Argentina and Paraguay.

GUAYAKI, no way.
30 years ago, Coca-Cola wanted to launch a carbonated drink based on Yerba Mate, it was called Nativa and it was a complete failure.

I often pair pipe blends with coffee or tea. Some of my favorite have been:

English breakfast tea + Samuel Gawith Full Virginia Flake, G.L. Pease Union Square, or Mac Baren HH Pure Virginia

Lapsang souchong tea + Peterson Early Morning Pipe or Arango Balkan Supreme

Sleepytime tea + Gawith Hoggarth Dark Flake Aromatic or Coniston Cut Plug

French roast coffee + Samuel Gawith 1792 Flake

Any sweet cappuccino + Mac Baren Vanilla Flake

You mentioned before Hot Mate isn’t Mate, I asked before what you meant?

Also for Guayaki, it helps to elaborate, as others possibly and myself included would like to know the reasons as to saying; Guayaki no way.

When I mentioned Guayaki, I wasn’t only referring to their cold and carbonated Yerba Mate. They also have traditional loose tea, and tea bags.

What is wrong with the Guayaki traditional loose tea, and tea bags? Is Guayaki looked down upon in Argentina as a bad company?

If there is a particular brand of Yerba Mate widely loved in Argentina, that is exported? Also anything organic exported from Argentina?

Thanks

You asked if guayaki was known in Argentina and No, not at all, no Mate-based drink has been successful.
Mate is drunk in the traditional way in Argentina, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay. It is difficult to find a successful mate-based drink.

This bag of loose Yerba Mate from Guayaki is Mate Based, I thought this is real traditional Mate?

By the way, what brands are popular in Argentina?

I see Playadito I believe is from Argentina.

Thanks

Hi @Alejo R. I have only been trying to talk about Traditional Mate, not mate based as you mentioned. I guess when I mentioned Guayaki, you were thinking about their canned drinks.

It is my understanding making traditional mate, is putting the loose leaves in a gourd, pouring in the hot water, let it steep inside the gourd, and then use a metal straw placed inside the gourd to drink from.

Here is a site I found information, this is my understanding of tradional mate.

Thanks

@Alejo R. you are the first person whom I’ve ever talked from Argentina, and then last night my family goes near our house to an outside food court that is all made up of Food Trucks.

This is where it’s at;

And to my surprise there is a Food Truck there with Argentina style food, and the couple is from Argentina. I was talking to one of them about Yerba Mate.

I was joking with her, because you showed me a western office working person’s cup, instead of a traditional gourd you were drinking from, and she laughed. Then she showed me she was drinking Yerba Mate at work, with her traditional gourd, and I was like, see you have a traditional gourd and we laughed.

What a small world, I talk with you and a few days later, seriously a Food Truck with a couple from Argentina selling Argentina style of food in Hawaii, I would of never thought LOL 🤣

I bought the Argento… :)

Aloha Argentina-Hawaii 🤙
