Sweet Tea and Granger. Coffee for my other Burleys. I just find that coating the tongue with sweetened tea, hot or cold, just amplifies the flavor in this tobacco.

Hot tea with sugar and milk is my winter Granger pairing.

Black Coffee (no sugar) with cream is my anytime Pegasus pairing.

I rarely do otherwise.

As for a Tea on its own? I enjoy Russian Caravan or Lapsang

what tobacco might pair best with a hot cup of Sleepy Time Tea in the evening?

or what is your nighttime go to drink and a pipe combo?
- I don't get this at all: nicotine, I find, relaxes me but sharpens my alertness at the same time, and so - being insomniac - I don't smoke when it's time to turn in... but if I did, I'd be looking at cacao-based drinks rather than caffeine-loaded ones or herbal sedative mixes. And probably mugwort in the pipe, rather than tobacco.

I drink a lot of tea, almost exclusively loose leaf Chinese black teas, and it's probably the perfect drink pairing with just about any tobacco blend. If you want a specific recommendation, Lapsang Souchong and Keemun are exceptionally good smoking companions due to their almost tobacco-like smokiness.

Not sure what I would smoke with an herbal chamomile like Sleepytime, but I'd imagine that most tobaccos would pair pretty nicely with it!
Thanks for this, I’m going to have a look in the local Chinese shop for these teas. Cheers mate!

OP is definitely an Englishman 👍

Nothing beats (in my opinion) an ice cold beer and a pipe 🥰😍☘️🇮🇪 either at night or in the very hours of the morning but I’ll say cheers to you mate and hope you’re enjoying your routine 😁

For pairing with that particular tea, I'd opt for either Vanners Mixture by Fribourg & Treyer, Wessex Gold Slice, or Peterson Flake. The first has a light topping and a hint of black cavendish, the second is nearly topping-free and tastes nearly of fresh hay (but in a good way, and it would compliment the chamomile), and the third has a nice sweetness to it.

I usually pair my night pipe with beer or wine, but when I choose to brew a tea, I like a Ginger and Rhubarb blend made by Teapigs. I also like their mint-liquorice with stouter blends (it has a very potent flavour that can overshadow milder blends).

Anyway, my favourite drink while smoking is by far yerba mate. But only until 4 pm because it has lots of caffeine.
They say Yerba causes esophageal disease
I don't know what to believe anymore though

I'm no doctor, but if that would be the case, Argentina, Uruguay and a good chunk of Brazil would be plagued. I can be wrong, of course, but a quick goggle search in Spanish says that drinking your mate too hot can cause esophageal issues including cancer. But it seems to be a temperature issue. And yes, from what I know, at least people in Argentina tend to drink it too hot.

Fortunately, you can wait after every refill and even brew it with cold water or fruit juice (it's called "tereré" then).

Seriously, it's crazy how good it pairs with tobacco. Tell us if you try it!

I just today received some Lapsang Souchong and Russian Caravan samples. I'm in love with the Lapsang! Have not had it with a pipe yet, though. Anxious to give it a try.

As I smoke mostly English and Balkan blends, I find Upton Tea's Baker Street Afternoon Blend (Lapsang Souchong, Keemun and Darjeeling) to be a wonderful complement to the enjoyment of a bowl and beverage.

Funny how the details make a difference.
One thing that comes up constantly in pathology especially oncology is the word irritation. Basically if it hurts there is damage. If there is enough damage over enough time in the right place.... Issues arise.
Oh and tea and coffee can lead to esophageal issues. Often has to do with quantity and individual reactions. So can eating too much marinara or really almost any food people eat.
Why because having a body is just straight up complicated.

I had a great-great uncle who suffered from delirium tremens after years of drinking pot after pot of strong black tea, which rather proves the point. :)
