I ended up with a few pounds to squirrel away. Should cover me through the apocalypse. :puffy:

HH Vintage Syrian is my favorite tobacco blend and my normal smoke, over the years I've noticed the shift in flavor and know it happened since I would go back to older ones and smoke them side by side and not only taste the difference, but even SEE the difference. The amount of syrian latakia is is small, and really just dust now, you can shake the cans and watch the latakia dust gather at the bottom but not see any ribbons in the actual mix. I still enjoy it though, I just bought 2.5 pounds, and will probably grab more in the coming weeks to store. Thanks for the heads up.

admiral, Vintage Syrian is still available until they run out
I know :)
My point is they announced Latakia Flake as the "replacement" for Vintage Syrian in the HH line.

Now seems there will be a second Lat blend - Vintage Latakia, and this actually will be the replacing blend.

HH Vintage Latakia is the replacement for Vintage Syrian. Latakia flake is in a class of it's own and has been out for some time. It is also awesome.

Anyone know if MacBaren Solent Mixture still contains Syrian Latakia?

For the record, my love for Jesse predates this thread.
I also just ordered four more tins of Vintage Syrian.

"Eventually Syrian Latakia will be gone forever, even if it takes the Sun going supernova and evaporating the Earth to do it." -
How can the Sun go Supernova?

The sun doesn't have enough mass to create a supernova. Towards the end of the sun's life cycle it will switch to fusing helium and heavier elements; swelling in size. It's borderline if it will swell enough to swallow the Earth but even if it doesn't the Earth will still fry.
Earth: Starts out a bit steamy, then burning wood and grass flavors come in. Half way through flavors become earthy and then a bit metallic. No relights, a slow hot smoke that burns down to a rocky dottle.

I would imagine more northern climes with their conifers would take on more of a Cyprian aroma, while more temperate latitudes would be more of a Syrian incense like smoke?

For what its worth:
Brebbia: Balkan, currently available at SP.com, label states contains 40% Syrian Latakia. Also Brebbia: Latakia Flake, both the label and SP.com state contains Syrian Latakia.
Note: the labels may or may not be accurate.

"Syrian Latakia" will never be produced again.

Israel bombed the crap out of a "chemical factory" in the region.

I wouldn't smoke anything from the region that was listed as "new production".

After what Assad dropped on his own people, you can bet the soil will be contaminated for quite some time.

Does anybody know if Solani 779 is still made with Syrian?

I'm about half way through a tin from 2016 and it's luxurious indeed.
