Five Brothers is my preferred brandLast week I was in Tucson visiting family. At first I wasn’t going to bring my pipe - figured I’d take a break. Then I came to my senses and realized smoking my pipe would be the only way to get a little alone-time, so I packed a cob and a packet of Five Brothers, which unlike some people, I enjoy.
It turned out to be the perfect choice. It lasted just for the whole trip, wasn’t too harsh for mornings with coffee (well, a little rough on the stomach).
Anyway, I’ve now sort of lost my taste for OJK, which is what I usually smoke, and am thinking of only ordering more Five Brothers. I guess I’d save some money! It’s good stuff, IMO, plus a little easier on an empty stomach. Also VERY satisfying on a full stomach!
I used to smoke a good bit of 5 bros. I find though I like 4 aces red just as much for that style of smoke (thanks to Briar Lee). It’s a different top note (the flavorings used in “red” cigarettes really). I prefer even more whole leaf Kentucky burley, with no topping at all
I may be misunderstanding your reply. Or maybe I was unclear. 5 bros has no dark fired in it.I doubt much that any value bagged tobaccos use more than a little of the dark fired Kentucky that’s used in Five Brothers.
Face it, the unsaid purpose of Four Aces, Buoy. Gambler, etc is stuffing tubes.
Dark fired Kentucky is for nasal snuff and high grade chew.
Plus Five Brothers.![]()
I'm not sure but I believe DFK is burley.I may be misunderstanding your reply. Or maybe I was unclear. 5 bros has no dark fired in it.
It’s considered a different class of tobacco. Jeremy reeves has a good video on the subjectI'm not sure but I believe DFK is burley.
Five Brother’s ain’t Prince Albert or Velvet.I'm not sure but I believe DFK is burley.
5 bros may be “dark burley “—the air cured upper leaves of the burley tobacco plant—but it’s not fire cured. Prince Albert, velvet, and other otc brands are mild, I think, because they heat treat the burley. That’s what I taste anyway when I smoke them, a toasted burley baseFive Brother’s ain’t Prince Albert or Velvet.
I assume it’s about 100% dark fired burley that will kick—your—-azz.

I find un-toasted burley, especially dark burley, to be a good bit stronger, nic-wise, than dark fired Kentucky, tho flavor wise, the dark fired is more powerful, due to smoke tasteI just assumed Five Bros has always been dark fired Burley, because it’s so rich in Vitamin N

PA and Velvet are white burley

It's burley, many different burleys. Some are mild, some high octane. I believe DFK is a type of burley. I've heard Perique is also a burley. It's all In the processing. Maybe the Ink man will respond and straighten us out? What kind of kick azz high nic tobacco do they use?
Stokers have anything similar to Red Man?Our local reservation has the 5 packs of 5 Bros for $27. Every now and then I buy a box for piping and an occasional ciggie. It's also great when non smoking friends have been drinking and want a rollie or want to try a pipe.
Most tobacco at this place is extremely cheap but the imported stuff like 5 bros seems on par with the going rate. I get the 10 can tubs of Stokers dip for $11.
