Hello! I bought my boyfriend a pipe for christmas and was looking to get him some tobacco for his birthday coming up.
He likes Laphroaig scotch, he used to smoke marlboro reds, and he doesn't like sweet or the mouth tingles of cigars.
Any suggestions?

Right now I'm especially enjoying Seattle Pipe Club's Potlatch which you can get from smokingpipes.com and pipesandcigars.com. But you might ask him for a suggestion; you'd spoil the surprise but be sure to please him. A number of blends have bourbon, rum, or Irish whiskey as flavorings, but he might like unflavored blends, and drink the whiskey along with it.

gl pease meridian. it's a savory blend of english. but, he might pick up a bit of sweetness after awhile.

No need to bog you down with suggestions as Old Dark Fired sounds perfect for him based on his experience and preferences. And either Meridian or 965 would make a fine English style which would give him another genre to try.

You're OK, I certainly didn't take it that way: I was being a bit funny with my previous comment. You do have a point, though: I've seen suggestion threads explode with, well, suggestions. ?

I'd say perhaps get burley blends since he use to smoke cigarettes. Cornell & Diehl makes great Buley blends.

Pipe Cleaners are always a good thing to have along with Q-tips. Maybe a few pipe nails as well.

I buy my jars based on the amount to jar in them. The contents of a 2 oz tin will fit perfectly in a 250 ml jar; for 4 oz tins I use the 500 ml jar. So, it depends on what size the tins you're buying him. If you leave too much air in a jar, the tobacco can dry out faster.

Yeah, a couple of inexpensive but indispensable Czech tools would round it up quite nicely.

Pipe cleaners, a tamper, a tobacco pouch, a pipe rack (if he is going to start collecting). A couple of basket pipes, he should switch out pipes to let the briar bowl dry in between smokes. Or a meerschaum pipe no dry time needed with one of those and he can try different tobaccos without tasting the previous smoked tobacco.

It was proven on here that briar isn't very absorbent so when properly cleaned after smoking, drying time really isn't necessary.
