I would add Obsidian Oil or mineral oil to your shopping list if your boyfriend's pipe has a vulcanite stem.

Old habits are hard to break. It was proven on here that briar isn't very absorbent so when properly cleaned after smoking, drying time really isn't necessary.
I know. I still ash my chambers.?Old habits are hard to break.
A Rossi 8320.I've already learned so much, thank you all! Im so excited to surprise him with everything he needs to get started.
Also, any recommendations for an affordable, travel friendly pipe? His is long and won't fit in many carry cases. Normally this wouldn't be an issue, but we're going backpacking for a week and I know he plans on taking it with him!
Words of wisdom. For backpacking you can’t beat a cheap Missouri Meerschaum corncob pipe.
In fact, cobs are a great addition to any pipe smoker’s pipe collection.

That's for cleaning. The oil's just for keeping 'em black.?or he can just use his spit. that's what i do
I'll second that notion, smoking some old dark fired right this moment.Mac Baren Old Dark Fired. Remind him what a lucky boyfriend he is.?

Instead of starting a new thread, I have a couple more questions if you guys don't mind.
Im buying him little 4oz mason jars for storage, anything else you recommend buying? Or any basic newbie advice?
I'll second the Seattle Pipe Club Potlatch. Great stuff. I'm sure your boyfriend would quite enjoy it.Right now I'm especially enjoying Seattle Pipe Club's Potlatch which you can get from smokingpipes.com and pipesandcigars.com. But you might ask him for a suggestion; you'd spoil the surprise but be sure to please him. A number of blends have bourbon, rum, or Irish whiskey as flavorings, but he might like unflavored blends, and drink the whiskey along with it.
Here is everything I ended up getting for him! The two in the jars are the Match 965 and Old Dark Fired. Thank you all for the help!
(Pardon the mess, we just did an escape room in a box last night and haven't yet cleaned up ?)
