Strange Looks

Do you get strange looks when from people who see you smoking your pipe? I certainly do, i probably get more looks then most of the people here, because of how young i am, im only 18. so people see me smoking a pipe which isnt too common these days,and the fact that im young makes it even more of an oddity

I get strange looks all the time, not sure if it's my pipe or my 1-5/8'' stretched ear lobes and tattoos, either way Baskerville has the right idea.

Im 36 and had the same question a few months ago. I got the same advice too. Who cares what people think? If you enjoy it thats all that matters. I have been smoking in public ever since. I've got some nice comments as well.

i personally enjoy them, i find them amusing.and marmal4de, its probly a bit of both for you. gauges and tattoos tend to draw peoples attention.

I felt the same exact way when I first started a smoking a pipe back in the late 70's. It wasn't until the girls I would date started commenting on just how good my car smelt that I started smoking in front of them... 8)
Maybe that is also part of the reason why I loved Captain Black (white) back in the day.

Maybe a few times, but after a small amount of time it gets easier and people just start to comment on the tobacco you're smoking or how cool it is to see someone smoking a pipe.
I had a guy at a fastfood restaurant tell me recently that through his whole time working there, he's never seen someone come through the drive-thru smoking a pipe.
Since I'm newly employed, the people I work with are starting to catch on to my pipe smoking. One afternoon coming back from lunch, two ladies were amazed and very curious. They wanted to smell the tobacco from my pipe, but it had just gone out before I was going back into the office.

Why can't fashion just make clothes that fit and be satisfied? I was into the Jinco/baggy jeans in high school. Even now, I still like my pants to have a little breathing room, but I make sure they fit properly.

I started smoking a pipe when I was 18 as well, it took me awhile to start smoking outside in front of people. Now at 22 I just give people weird looks back!

and you know the young pipe smoker used to not be an odd thing my father started smoking at 13, and he smoked a pipe. now my dad is 61 so when he was 13 that was legal.

I don't know if you're familiar with the belief that some aboriginal tribes hold, it's the concept that a photo might steal a part of your soul. What are your thoughts on that as someone gets his picture taken for a living?
