Strange Looks

I started smoking when I was 18 and I am regularly on a college campus and while I get the occasional wired look I have had more people ask me questions about how to start than people thinking it is weird. It seems as though I get the most bad looks from middle aged women which doesn't bother me because I know they just wish their husbands were man enough to walk around with a pipe. :nana:

Never cared much for what people thought when they looked at me, im 25 years old 6' 250lbs from the forests of El Dorado County California, ive been called a Hick, Redneck whathaveyou but you wouldn't know the truth unless you actually knew me. If they stare with an awkward look on their face i just grin at them and wave maniacally, If i get complimented i say thank you, have a nice day and move on... 75% of the time you will never see that person again 100% of the time. Although around here its not really the people who give you funny looks, its the local LEO's because i dont have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times ive been pulled over and grilled about the fact they KNOW im not smoking tobacco in my pipes.

When I'm in public... I blow tricks :clap: ok... that was a bad joke... even for me.
Seriously though... I find when I'm in public I do get a lot of looks... but not negative ones. Traditionally people are compelled to ask me questions ... what am I smoking?... why I do it?... where did I learn to do it?... lol (ummmmm???) Do women even do that sorta thing? again (ummmmm last I checked I'm female) aren't I worried about my health?... Do I inhale?... it smells so good, what is it?...etc. and then mostly the rest are positive complements and many times from people who start off by saying... you know, typically I'd never support smoking but... lol imagine that.
Often, when I'm eating chicken wings, smoking a bowl and drinking my fav wine I get whole groups of tables pointing ... leaning back in their chairs to peek from behind another person... whispering... but all are smiling... so I figure no harm done and I keep enjoying myself which is why I'm there.
I find it interesting to observe people get a little uncomfortable and natural.. they loosen up and I find when you pipe around them... walls and facades come down quickly. Folks are fascinated... and I too am fascinated by them. So my suggestion is... humor yourself... enjoy the moment.. for what it's worth. If it bothers you... change your direction, location or mind till you are no longer bothered. :wink:

the looks i get arent negative, theyre more quizzical then anything else. its like theyre surprised that someone my age is smoking a pipe

You look a tad younger than your age... perhaps... the look is one of SHOULD you? as in are you old enough? I know if I saw you I wouldn't believe you were old enough just by looking at you and it might stun me at first glance. So maybe that's it? But then some people see me and wonder if I'm old enough I'm 38... don't look it so I hear Either way... you're your own man... pipe on piper! :wink:

When you get my age, a picture of 6-7 years old looks the same as now. OK, the 13 year old picture has brown with some grey and now I am grey with some brown. 46 for those who care. Grey runs in the family.

I get strange looks every single day - Mostly from my Girlfriend. She just doesn't "Get it".
Other than that I've gotten a few strange looks. I'm 22 and I smoke a corncob pipe.
I find it somewhat amusing.. Getting reactions for ENJOYING MYSELF. :crazy:
