Better yet, what was "the tactic he used"? Would you agree that it was relative privation?

My point is that he has no legitimate point.

One can always make the claim that anyone's concerns short of dying are trivial compared to the suffering of others as a means of shutting down conversation and making yourself feel superior.

Now, if I went on a forum dedicated to the topic of solving world hunger and started complaining about STG buying MacBaren and discontinuing Per Jensen's Pipe Force tobacco blends then I would expect to scolded for caring about such relatively trivial matters.

But to scold people for making such statements here is ridiculous.

I'm pointing out that the emperor has no clothes and if people still want to claim that he's wearing beautiful clothes with their 'likes' then it's up for each individual to use their own sense making apparatus to determine what they agree with.
I am so glad you have this all worked out.
Thanks for stopping by and clarifying the entire scene.
Really needed to be done, and your authoritative tone kinda turned me on.

You are seriously starting to float my boat. A Canadian talking tough love about tobacco to a lot of Americans, with wicked sciency links about psychology and shit is literally just what we have been missing.
Glad I could help, but I'm actually American. I just happen to live in Canada presently.

Firstly, I did not call anyone pathetic. I called the logic he was employing pathetic.

Someone needed to say it.

I could have used a softer tone, but the snowball effect of likes and "spot on's" called for something stiff.
Nope - you said his invoking said logic was “beyond pathetic”, not the logic itself. Later the forum members apathy “sickening” and this and that amping up the rhetoric. Maybe dial it down just a tad - “yelling” and insulting folks is pretty much “your mother wears army boots”.

I think it also has alot to do with the fact that a significant amount of pipe tobacco is actually RYO tobacco and lawmakers don't give a flying crankshaft about health but tax evasion is top of their concern.

Walk into your average convenient store and take a look at what most pipe tobacco is on offer today.

Yeah at a lot of places that's all the "pipe tobacco" they have that isn't Borkum Riff or Captain Black. I know it used to be common for tobacco to be designed for both pipes and RYO but this stuff is pretty clearly just cigarette tobacco. One time I was at a place that had several Stokkebye pouches and I got excited but I looked closer and it was clearly RYO so I passed on it. One time my brother bought a big ass bag of either Largo or Gambler, can't recall, and I had to explain to him just because it says it's pipe tobacco doesn't mean it is. He got some Captain Black and found it boring and difficult to smoke so now he's written off pipe smoking and just sticks with cigars. I gave him a jar of English but I don't think he's ever tried it.

Of course. It is mandatory, only for smokers and drinkers, there is also an emergency telephone, outside the submarine, in case of emergency. There is also a first aid kit and duct tape, in case a pipe breaks at the stem. I've hired a psychiatrist, a hairdresser, and a writer, in case the submarine runs out of oxygen. Everything will be okay.

I'm in.
