What does it mean when one says, "to ass"?
Once you reach lifer status on here, you'll know.

And don't think you can circumvent this inevitability by ceasing your posts prematurely! Few know this, but once you pass 100 posts, if an entire day goes by without you posting something, the forum utilizes an automation to make a post for you, usually containing subtle references to the Lifetime channel. I myself have only made three posts on here, one of which was a retraction regarding a purely fictitious Kramer blend, "Blend for Janet Reno."

Frankly, I don't know why I even still come here. Mostly for the recipes in the Food & Drink subsection.

Remember, there is less and less pipe tobacco sold every year.
Is there, though? The "small batch" release numbers seem to go up every year, and still always sell out.
Maybe it's becoming more of a "hobby" than a daily activity and dollars are shifting from drug store pouches to the higher end stuff, in which case there should be higher profit margins overall.

Even the location of a factory makes a difference on quality, I know this from Scotch…. Streamlining is generally not good. Lagavulin tried to get the same flavour as Laphroaig, but couldn’t and they were a distillery NEXT door on Islay, they attributed it to microbes in the air.

I heard an owner of a retail chain, I forgot which, say 90% of the time consolation happens, quality drops. Now whether some will care, is another story. i happen to like OGS, an STG product.
especially if the new owner doesn't care about the product in the same way. The best case for consolidation is when they let the key people stay as equally involved in the process as they were before the purchase.

all things pass. Sometimes we should be happy we had the good times at all. And hey there is always the future and while it's got no promises it always has potential.
Not that it doesn't sting but there are lots of things I wish I could have appreciated more for what they were at the time. Like happier being in a relationship with the love of my life, but I wish I would have exploited being single more (mainly being able to watch whatever movie I feel like instead of trying to find one with both dig).

From the STG 2023 Annual report:
  1. NET SALES GROWTH
In the past five years, the net sales growth was in the range of 0% to 19% with an annual average of 7%.

There was a steep net increase in 2020 followed by a few follow up years of further growth. 2023 was flat y/y.

STG makes a lot more than just pipe tobacco. It would be nice if they broke out those numbers for product categories.
They do to a degree:

DKK million20232022
Handmade cigars3,235.33,302.2
Machine-rolled cigars3,031.63,009.8
Smoking tobacco1,239.01,279.5
Accessories and Contract Manufacturing1,225.01,170.7

-Quick edit to note this is Gross Profit (Net Sales and Cost of Goods Sold) but fair enough for the discussion at hand.

How much of that meager growth in "smoking tobacco" (which most likely includes RYO and trade sales) is due to acquisitions?
