Just curious how you're making out with the butcher block oil, I picked up some walrus butcher block oil recently and it seems to be working great, not sure why it's not mentioned more for stems.
Its mentioned all the time as Obsidian Oil ... if you go to their website its ingredient is food grade mineral oil.... who cares if its black or clear ?? I can't get obsidian oil without ordering it but I have a bottle of the butcher block oil for my cutting board so I use that.

That's what I thought. I've been using Walrus butcher block oil and it has zero smell or flavor. I've even been rubbing it on the pipes from type to time. Thanks

Obsidian oil is made and sold by a member here. He doesn't have a website as far as I know but has previously posted that it is not mineral oil. I have some and it's not, despite its name, black either.

I use the Burt's Bees Lipbalm (beeswax based) with the mint flavor for maintenance. The Windex and oil for cleaning. I may have to go with something stronger for my Pioneer Meerschaum military stem ... its clean but very discolored but doesn't taste like sulphur ... maybe its just really old. I bought it between 1986 - 1990.

I don't remember which site (possibly Amazon) I checked, but I followed a link on one of the threads here several months ago. It might not have been his obsidian oil ... might have been another brand. The Q&A on the one I checked said food grade mineral oil and I already had that in the butchers block oil. Since I am putting the stem in my mouth I don't want anything harsh on it. I rinse the windex off and dry it before oiling or waxing. Sorry I can't be of more help but this works for me for now.
