My latest antique store acquisition is a “Steel Warrior Pipe Knife” with Bone scales and silver bolsters.

The show side has ‘Steel Warrior’ printed on blade, at base of blade, and emblem inlaid into scale. The bottom of blade on obverse is stamped ‘440 stainless’.

Tag at store dated it 1907.
It was pretty clean. But I still did spray it with Scrubbing Bubbles and scrub it with a toothbrush.
I’ll add this to my other EDC knives: A thumb-pin 6” (open) 5.11 folder,

And my “Gentleman’s knife” – a Laguiole Arbalete Genes David Snakewood Shepherds Knife. (Also acquired at the same antique store for $10. The current value is $111.76

Dang, you are a very lucky man haha. I'm geeked, I'm going to all the local antique stores tomorrow! That is, however, if they are open on Sundays. I'm very behind on my accessories, don't have any sort of pipe tools so hopefully I can pick one up while I'm out. If not, I'll just be throwing one on my TAD order.

I am afraid the store was off on the dating of that knife. It was about 1907 that several people in Europe began experimenting with chromium in steel, but the 440 designation was not until much later.

Crap. That was my fault. I forgot to post the pics.

Let's see if I can do this right!

My dad used to carry a Steel Warrior knife with a handle just like that ... I wonder what ever happened to it. He wasn't a pipe smoker, but used it for every other imaginable thing under the sun ... there's no telling how many trout were made to spill their (innards) when faced with the business end of his knife.

Wow, that was worth the wait - what a lovely piece!

To clean the bone handle, I'd probably just rub in some light oil (mineral oil) and or some paste wax. I'd keep the Flitz to the stainless.
That would be one very handy pipe tool with every day use as well.

ssjoines: (I was gonna put the @ in front of it, but it just didn't look right!)
:Mineral oil: Check
:Paste Wax: I have some Mothers PureBrazilian Carnauba Wax I use on my Native American Style Flutes,

that should work.

I liked that one so much, I bought one for myself, $10 at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks. It's not vintage, but on the other hand, I won't be afraid to use and/or lose it...

Had my eye on one of those as well. It's actually a "Doctor's knife," modeled after vintage Country Doctor's knives that were used to dispense pills (thus, the spatula) and crush them as well (with the flat bottom part of the knife). Lucky for us pipe smokers, the spatula works great as a reamer and the flat bottom, a great tamper. Nice find either way! Love the bone scales on both of these.

Excuse my ignorance, but is that knife made specifically for pipe reaming, or have pipers just deemed it so? It certainly is a beaut :)

I have a Sheffield as well, I like it better than my Czech tool. I wouldn't mind picking up one of those Steel Warrior knives as well.
