I can understand that if you have an emotional or whatever type of attachment to the original show as he certainly is a sad depressive sack in the new one.
I wouldn't call it an emotional attachment. I just don't care for shows which takes the original source material and throw it in the trash can. That's probably why I dislike when a character's race and gender is changed just to make a show "inclusive". For example, when the producers/directors for Marvel decided to change Nick Fury to a black man. The origin of Nick Fury was in "Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos" - a series taking place in WWII. He was later featured in the Marvel series like Fantastic Four as the leader of a C.I.A. type organization - S.H.I.E.L.D.

And then there is Capt. Marvel. Originally a male character designed to compete with Superman. The Hollywood "woke" crowd decided they needed a strong, female superhero so all of a sudden Captain Marvel had gender reassignment to become a female.

I understand where you are coming from but with that said Perry Mason, or the 2 episodes I've seen, didn't pander to any sort of wokeness which is usually just a ploy to net more viewers. I don't recall if I ever caught the reruns of the original so watching this didn't trigger any feelings about it being rehashed but with that said they probably just should of called the show something else based on what I do know about the original.

The new Perry Mason has a wonderful cast, but they completely missed hitting the Perry Mason vibe. They didn't remotely connect to the books or the much later TV show. It wasn't bad it just wasn't Perry Mason.

A lot of TV, or most, is just too wacky for me. It has a millennial or post-millennial sensibility maybe. I didn’t like Picard but I only watched 10 minutes of it. I feel like 10 minutes is enough for me to decide. Sometimes I’ll go back and try again.
I've done that before, get 10-15mins in on a movie and just can't do it. Only to have nothing else to watch and it happens to be on and actually end up enjoying it immensely. One off the top of my head is Moulin Rouge, absolutely couldn't get through the beginning, now I'd watch it in a heartbeat. Probably due to the way the music flows into the storyline. I grew up going to theater in the park and the American Heartland Theater here in KCMO, my mother has always loved the theater and incorporated it into our summers.

I was thinking the exact same thing, not at all like the original series.

Strange New Worlds has been pretty good so far, they don't seem to be casting and writing to an agenda to please every possible special interests group. Discovery felt like the writers and directors had a diversity checklist that they had to complete as part of the series and it took away from the quality of the show.

I was afraid SNWs was going to be like that when I clicked it. But it genuinely seems to be as much about characters and story within the Trek universe as it can. I saw an interview with the show-runner. Like me, he went to a convention as a kid in the 70s. His idea is to make a show that entertains himself, as a Trek fan, and hope the audience is like him. This is rather than trying to figure out what elements he needs to have to please a general streaming audience. That’s an interesting distinction.

I'm a huge Trek fan, but I feel burned with Picard & Disco. I haven't given STW a shot yet. I'm intrigued by it, but just don't know anymore.
I feel the same way as you. Huge Trek fan but lately let down by everything Trek. This thread is making me interested in this new show though. I’ll probably check it out and see for myself.

I couldn’t watch those shows you mentioned (I tried) so it took a lot to get me to watch Strange New Worlds. It’s generally much better.

Strange new worlds is pretty good. Discovery is ok when it's not trying to be super woke for the sake of being woke. Star Trec has always been pretty in tune with the social landscape.

We are enjoying SNW very much. We grew-up on ST, and can feel a connection that the post-SNG movies lacked. Discovery was lacking this as well. It was as if these newer movies, and Discovery, were written with younger groups in mind...that is to say more action, and less story. SNW, for us, is a comfortable blend of the two. What is also nice is the incorporation of bits of stories from previous series into the show.

Picard was very enjoyable as well. Hopefully, a spin-off show featuring Seven of Nine.

I’m finding myself unable to finish some of these S2 episodes. I appreciate them trying to break new ground while keeping the old sort of style but I’ve sort of lost faith with the show. There have been a few that have lost my interest. The one that is a musical is a bridge too far for me. I tried. I actually like musicals but not bad ones. Musicals are a high degree of difficulty. Oh well. But it’s not just that.

What? Whoa. That was an amazing show. Yeh, it was a huge leap. But so we’ll done!
