IMG_20240213_155243027.jpgIMG_20240213_155236987.jpgSo I sanded this old estate pipe and stained it with Fiebings Medium Brown leather dye. As you can see, one side looks completely different. I've stained several pipes successfully so I'm not sure what I've done wrong. I tried using a more aggressive grit on the dull side then a wire brush and and buff before dying, along with a few different things but it always comes out like this.

If someone could let me know and also what to do to fix it I would appreciate it.

One side is duller than the other. Meaning that dull side is possibly soaking up different amount of dye? Finer grit sandpaper to polish it up? Just a possible educational guess, meaning I have no clue.
