Don't listen to those filthy animals. Mud bugs will never replace blue crab.

You may come to like them but will likely not love them. There IS something special about a proper crawfish boil, though, with the giant kettle full of crawdads, ears of corn, sausage and 'taters. Cajun music and cold beer...

There are blue crabs in the gulf, so you're not SOL. Everyone down there likes to boil them, though, so you will have to retrain them on properly steaming them.

Leave your snow shovel at a highway rest stop along the way. You won't need it.

You will lose Roy Rogers, but you will gain Whataburger. Their Jalapeno cheddar biscuits are Tha Shiznit!

Safe travels!

Safe travels, Al! Moving is a big pain in the A$$, but it will be worth it to get close to your children and grandchildren! Enjoy the journey!............

Good luck with the move. You have my sympathies, having gone through that last year.
I'm happy that I used the opportunity to jettison a truckload of "treasures" in the process.
Saves others from having to deal with my crap when I croak out, an experience I learned when I cleared out my parents' house after Pop died.
As we went thru this, I remembered your journey last year.

Update Saturday 8/10

Our Household goods left Maryland on Wednesday, fortunately, we have a great moving company and the local driver loaded and will drive and unload in Louisiana.

Huge drama at the house Wednesday evening and Thursday AM. One downspout became clogged (cable company apparently ran their new line thru the buried drain line last summer, it's been clogging since then, #@##! Bastards). Water was coming on one corner of our finished basement. My best friend and neighbor dug it up in the rain Thursday AM and filled the cavity, remulched and put in a new above ground drain line. I had to call my other friend and contractor neighbor to go in an pull up the carpet and address any water issues (he reports today, we solved the drainage issue and the damage is minimal). I hope I can find friends like this in Louisiana.

We left Maryland after settlement on Thursday afternoon, and drove thru the height of Hurricane Debbie. In five hours, we only made it 200 miles. An 18 hour drive turned into 22 hours. We were so exhausted from the drain line issue, we had to stop multiple times to sleep for an hour or so. My daughter was the 3rd driver and a life saver. Again, pretty grateful for a daughter like that. We made a midnight stop at a Buc-Eees in Tennessee.

We had purchased our home here, only based on daughters visits & video and video from our realtor (we fired 1st realtor and this one is as good as the one we had in Maryland. We visited yesterday and love the home and neighborhood, which is 10 minutes from either daughters home. We had dinner with my youngest daughter last night and got to see the grandkids and their new puppy.

We settle on the new home on Tuesday, and on Wednesday our moving van shows up, so we reverse it. After a lifetime in Maryland, it still seems surreal that we will be Louisiana residents.

ssjones:

You needn't have gone to the expense of actually purchasing a home in Louisiana, as Buc-ee's is building two locations there: one in Ruston, and the other in Lafayette. From what I understand, their stores are so large that you could probably live in them and no one would be the wiser!

Congratulations on your move and best of luck at your new home. The Louisiana Gulf coast is a wonderful location (except for the Hurricanes). You will be close to the home of Perique, maybe you will get to visit the Martins' Perique farm in Paulina or the L. A. Poche factory. Great to have you down here in the deep south.
