I like guns, collecting crystal skulls, drawing, Rubiks type puzzles, and skateboarding. It would never cross my mind to interact with others about it as they are pursuits that I enjoy alone. If you see someone smoking a pipe these days, it may be the only "me" time that they are afforded and you'd deprive them of that?

Deprive them of what? If they are so fragile as to be unable to politely but firmly say..."Hey, if you don't mind I have some thinking to do" , they have issues far deeper than any I would "deprive" them of. If the world is sliding into that depth of selfish sensitivity, it probably needs some old fashioned spontaneous interactions to save it from itself.

2020 must've been hell for you. I see rudeness must just be a personality quirk of yours.

Some people can abide, intrusive, impolite interruptions. I won't. If you are a"hail fellow, well met!" type, more power to you. But, you will be most disappointed if you try that with me.

I do often wonder what some think gives them the right to intrude on others. Perhaps they are so full of themselves they consider such intrusion is necessary in order for me to lead a full life. rotf Perhaps they feel they are doing me a favor. Pshaw!

A smile? A wave? A tip of the hat? All not the least bit intrusive. Either is a request for assistance. But striking up, what you feel, is to be a friendly conversion, is intrusive as you describe it. I'd wonder at your motivation. That would be my initial reaction. Why would my feelings be hurt by another persons' rude behavior? We are not all alike in this respect. I'm asocial and mind my own business while treating people politely. At a social gathering my behavior would, of course, be modified.

I tire of reiterating myself as it's no longer entertaining. You simply can't justify such behavior to me. We are too different.

Not at all. Pandering, deceit, and misrepresentation are skills that I'm not willing to indulge.

Right on brother... I made my living in sales for many years. I'm not an introvert or any kind of asocial, but I after awhile I hated talking to customers.

One could say there would be no manufacturing, or construction, without the dreaded & decitful salesman.

Man, you hit it on the head, Funk..............

I retired two years ago after 41 years of sales. Actually, the interaction with the customers was the part I did like. What I didn't like was the continuous fighting with our bean counters in the corporate office. Those asswipes had no clue as to what made the wheel turn and what kept the light bill paid and at the end I was ruthless in my battles with those douchebags.

After coming out of that cesspool, I relish just working on the farm and talking with my animals.
Oh, I don't mind occasional chats with neighbors, but I'm at my best when it's just me, my pipe and the tractor/bushhog........

And..... I have a PhD in shoveling horse shit............ literally and figuratively.

I still fool with a few cars, but my main thing is the 500 heritage breed laying hens I keep and raise.

I'm miles away from the grind, trying to sell cars to people who either could not afford them or didn't need them.

And yeah.. you hear alot about the auto workers. You hear very little about the guy having to convince somebody that it's a good idea to pay a $1000 a month for 72 months, for a pickup truck... Usually for about $150 a car.

I read somewhere that one of the ways Europeans can tell an American when they meet them is because they tend to interact with strangers... the "how's it going" or "have a nice day" even though you really don't care how they're doing or if they really have a nice day after you see them. Social norms are just different. The French standoffishness kinda reflects the opposite... "I just said "hi", what's his problem?" kind of reaction.

In the semi-rural NorthEastern USA
had a weird spotting last week. I spotted a kid smoking a medwakh pipe. Yes I thought it was weed until I smelled what was coming out of his pipe and it was tobacco but very different tobacco. That was more surprising then a chap with a billard.
