I'm working my way through the various rums offered by the local liquor stores. Current favorite is the Kraken - like so many other things, I like 'em dark and spicy...

AustinxPipe: Thanks for the explanation. That was helpful. I've never been able to pick up those differences in gin. Perhaps due to the mishap when I was a wee lad I can't stand even the smell of it. Which is rather interesting because I can still enjoy a glass of the Dutch/Belgian version of gin called Genever. Especially the aged versions, what we call "Oude Genever" in a nicely chilled little glass like this. It's called "Nen Druppel" or "A Drop". Righly poured the Genever will kinda bulge up over the rim of the glass due to the surface tension.

Red wine, no whites for me... I am a sucker for pink champagne (have a tattoo now because of it!)

Beer... all sorts and kinds.

Whiskeys of all sorts... usually upper bottom to lower middle shelf stuff. Better stuff, in my opinion anyway, like Old Overholt Rye and John Barr Red Label scotch when they are on sale or there are good rebates to be had. I drink a lot of Fleischman's American blended whiskey and a local private label bottled for our local liquor store Mohan's.
Here's a website I follow when shopping for whiskeys: Practical Whisky

Bourbon for me. I have a collection. Old Grand Dad 100 for Manhattans (its spicy and made with more rye). I like Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, 4 roses, Elijah Craig, and Evan Williams 1792 (1792 is best value ever) for sipping neat. And I have others that are good I just dont drink very often.

I like my gin martinis made with Bombay Sapphire, up, dry and a little dirty, just like me! For G&Ts I like regular Tanqueray gin because the jumiper taste goes well with the lime and tonic. Beefeater is good, too. What makes Gin good? Good gin is smoother and more refined. Seagrams is bilge water.
My favorite vodka is Smirnoff black, if I'm just drinking vodka. If I'm mixing it with anything, it's 100° Wolfschmidt.
Right now my favorite Bourbon is Eagle Rare Single Barrel 10. Smooth as silk! I tried Ezra Brooks because of Lawrence, though and Ezra 90° is all you really ever need in a bourbon!
For Canadian, I actually prefer Canadian Hunter to Crown Royal. It's smoother and is $16 for a 1.5 liter. Can't lose.
The best Absinthe to me is LaClandestine Lebleue and and DuPlais Verte. Ridge Distillery in Montana makes one comparable to DuPlais, though.
I prefer Mezcal to tequila, because to me it has more character and flavor. If I do drink tequila, I'll go with Patron' Silver. Most "Top Shelf" tequilas are way overrated and over priced. If you do get the urge to spend an ass load of money on Mexican cactus juice, go with Don Julio 1942.
For Rum, the best is Metusalem, but I go for Blackbeard Rum when I'm in the Caymans. It's the only place you can get that stuff.

Strega, Chivas Regal, Jack Daniels, Drambuie, Guinness. It all depends on my mood, since all of these are so very different from one another other. I like most drinks that you can set fire to.

i enjoy all forms of alcohol. My fave is good old corn liqueur, but its getting harder and harder to find. there is nothing like a good sweet corn mash. corn is like any other liqueur quality is based on how smooth it is. My next fave would be Tequila then spiced rum. I once had a local Tequila in mexico that went down like honey.

most beer has its place too i just haven found one for most gas station beer. My go to is Blue moon or Yanling black and tan. Outside the US ill try the local stuff, usually it will be the best choice. for some reason im big in to hoppy beers.

Wine is good any time. for red i like a mellow Merlot, white depends on the weather and the food. with food i tend to go for the barrel aged white and a summer hanging out wine dry and crisp.

This spirit has quickly become one of my favorites. I love it straight up or on the rocks with a little cranberry juice. The taste is very clean.

My absolutely top favorite is RUM. Got hooked on it in the late 50's in the Islands down south. My favorite is Barbancourt Rhum made in Haiti. Spent many fond hours at their plantation.

My current favorite is Buffalo Trace followed by Makers Mark. I am dying to try some Bookers and have asked for it for a birthday present.

If I am drinking beer it is PBR for me, if I am not in a beer mood I like whiskey. I was a fan of JD & Crown Royal but have recently found a new favorite "Buffalo Trace" this to me is an awesome bourbon mixed with a couple ice cubes.

Baron, your choice of Gin is right on. (Hate to say it, but better than your...never mind)

#1 Capt. Morgan, first drink with coke every night cause I don't want to drink on an empty stomach

# 2 vodka on rocks

"it's a rye whiskey flavored with maple"
Interesting, this fairly new trend of blending whiskeys with sweet flavourings like maple syrup, honey, etc.
I'm not much of a drinker, but I do have chronic gut problems, and a friend with a similar problem said his doc suggested trying Bushmills Irish Whiskey with Honey (sold as "Irish Honey"). Now, that sounds like my kind of doctor - a guy who prescribes whiskey for what ails you!
I tried it, and it works! The honey cuts down the alcohol content to 35% (70 proof U.S.) so there's not much of a kick, but it does put some heat in my belly, right where I need it, and cuts down the pain. Very smooth, too, no bite. (Also good for coating pipe bowl insides.)
"P.S. Home brewer secret - run cheap booze through a Brita. I can make 10 vodka taste like Grey Goose."
Can we do this with bad tobacco too? :P
