A birder friend, now deceased, taught a group of us how to call in screech owls at night, how to make the sound, a sort of gurgling whistle. And yes, they do answer. But he said, once they get close, quit calling because they will zero in and dive bomb. They are fighting off rivals on their territory. The talons sort of lock when closed, to hold captured prey, so you really don't want that.

Yes, some birds have amazing maneuverability; watch them take off and land in a strong wind. Air is their medium.

I saw one nab a squirrel once while I was deer hunting. That was impressive. Poor squirrel never saw it coming.

A few colleagues of mine were discussing their spirit animals yesterday. I was unfamiliar with the concept and still am uncertain if I understand. If someone could could explain it better, that would be great, or if you have a spirit animal (bear, badger, penguin etc.) how did you choose it or do you think you were just born with it?
Didn't read Carlos Castaneda in your halcyon days, eh?

That's an amazing looking moth.

The way it looks in your new avatar reminds me of the Mothman Prophecies. If you start getting phone calls from it, don't get lured into long conversations.
Had a conversation with some fellow named Indrid Cold a while ago. Seemed like a nice fellow. Invited me to Point Pleasant for fireworks and a cookout.

I once saw a squirrel a mother squirrel punch a crow. It was one of the funniest things I've seen. She was vicious. Also saw a hawk grab a rabbit that was sitting behind this girl. The girl turned around and looked confused. It was so quick.

I've taken quizzes on the interwebs and they all said my spirit animal was a bear. I didn't get it, but those who know me immediately saw it. Something about going my own way, being a protector with great reserves of inner strength, and being very grounded.

It confused me at the time. It still does to a degree.

it's those long naps you take in peoples crawl spaces. Also your obsession with eating berries.
