Since our Spring weather here in SW PA has been anything but Spring like, I've been spending a good deal of my smoking time in my basement. With what seems like perpetual precipitation, the dampness has been horrible and our de-humidifier has been running almost round the clock. The discharge vent is located on top of the device and as I was knocking the ash out of one of my favorite briars one night I thought, hmm, I'll bet this would dry out nicely overnight if I just layed the open end of the bowl on that vent. Well, I've been doing this with 3 or 4 of my pipes over the last few weeks and I have to tell you, it works pretty good. I wait till the pipe is cool, dump the ash, pull it apart and go to it with a cleaner or 2, reassemble and place it on top of the discharge air vent and the pipe is ready for duty the next day. Has anyone ever tried such a thing and what were your findings?
