I wasn't really worried till I posted the question on here! Lol! Now I'm a little freaked out!
I have many C&d blends with darker leaf (might be perique or burley, not sure) that has a whitish dusty looking residue on it. It doesn't spread around to any other leaf varietals in the jar. I think if it were mold it would spread. I don't think you have any mold there, however, to put your mind at ease, confirm it with a loupe my friend. They are cheap and you can probably find one on Amazon. Even a magnifying glass or something.

Why is everyone so anal about mold this and mold that? It's not covered in a disgusting green web. If the sparkles in this picture puts you off, then you shouldn't smoke tobacco more than a few months old. If you age tobacco it's gonna end up looking something like this.

Mold in lung could be a serious issue. Most dead people have mold in lung.. After awhile.

Only one way to find out. Do you feel lucky? Well, do ya?
I'm going to go on a whim and guess that a shit load of people who smoke (tobacco or other leaf) have smoked mold without knowing, or with any issues afterwards. Christ, 25% of the outdoor shwag weed smoked is mold infested. Alot of paranoia for nothing in most cases

True, but knowing mold could cause serious lung issue, do you really want to risk it? I'm not that adventurous especially with perfectly fine tins of tobacco all over the house.

Sent an email to smokingpipes.com and C&D. We'll see what they say. Only been at this for about a year and just started building my celler, I've read other posts about mold problems in the past, and knew it was a possibility, just didn't really think I would run into it this soon in my journey! Has me a little freaked out about putting tins away for long-term storage and having to worry about mold issues!
Please share the response. Wasn't trying to chide anyone or anything. It's just what I would do. Laudisi is a great company and sh!t happens with organic material .

I haven't heard back from C&D but smokingpipes.com responded with this.

"In my experience this doesn't look like mold you would typically see on tobacco. Molded tobacco looks quite similar to moldy produce, with fuzzy, off white or greenish mold that spreads rapidly. The best course of action would be to place this in an empty mason jar and seal it up. When mold is exposed to fresh oxygen it will rapidly propagate. However, if there is no mold it will look and smell the same. I suggest isolating it for a week to see for sure. If mold blooms we can definitely help arrange for a reshipment of a new tin, or a refund!"

That sounds reasonable to me and it makes sense, I always put my open tobacco in a mason jar and let it sit for a week or two to breathe! Have a jewelers loop coming, should be here Saturday, will take a look and let y'all know!

Well after putting the tobacco under the jeweler's Loop I have determined that it's definitely not mold! I can't believe how beautiful the crystal's on the tobacco are under magnification! I'm really excited to try this tobacco! I'm currently smoking through a tin of Fusilier' Ration, and as soon as I'm done with that I'll break into this little brownie! Here's a few pics but they definitely don't do it justice!20221008_121005.jpg20221008_120933.jpg20221008_120831.jpg20221008_120716.jpg20221008_120703.jpg

That powdery pattern in the top image looks like mold, and I'd toss it. Plume, which I've been given to understand is mineral residue that gradually transitions to the surface over time looks more like strata or veins in the tobacco. However, you describe the deposit as sparkling, which is more typical of plume than of mold. Then again, it's tinned by C&D, so mold is a higher probability.

I dunno, but I don't like the looks of it. Personally I'd toss it. When in doubt, throw it out.

But, they're your lungs to damage, not mine, so your choice.
