@lordnoble, how relieved the community must be to hear of your approbation. How kindly, indeed how truly noble of you! (funny face here) However none of the 'watchers from the side' has done me the courtesy of telling me (even in a PM) why my "Personal Thoughts" thread was deleted, in the middle of the Scottish night while I was asleep, dreaming dreams (unhappy face here). All kidding aside, I wrote the OP as a personal 'journal page' which I no longer possess. Perhaps the thread could be sent to me as a PM?

I’m afraid to say the problem isn’t to do with selfishness but to do with compassion. If someone is going to be offended because someone is caring enough to give them an honest opinion (which is a lot better than lying to save emotional discomfort), providing that they seek this honest opinion or at least ask for it. I think as a people our goal should not be love everyone, despite their personal flaws; but rather to seek dignity for ourselves and for others. I believe in the freedom to speak, but If I think that which was said is unfair or stupid I hold it to be my personal conviction to argue and dispute what was said not just for my own sake but for their sake also. Toleration in my view is not good enough. We should seek argument and disputation!
I apologise for perhaps being so aggressively cynical or unkind or even heartless/soulless, but I just see no logical or reasonable sense in this line of “manhood”.
Either way I acknowledge what you are saying, and I understand your point. I see it as certainly something which is moralistic. I just hold an opinion contrarily to that of yours. Please certainly uphold it, it is perhaps a thought process which more people should possess.

To all who think I am over rated, you must be nuts to think I should be rated in the first place. I am just another bozo on the bus of the place we call home here at PM Magazine. Seriously there is no hierarchy, the number of posts you have means nothing and everyone is of equal standing, except of course Peck, who is so beneath our contempt that too give any of his words credence is to acknowledge that an attorney could actually be human, which we all know is an impossibility.
It matters not how many posts you have to say what ever strikes your fancy, if your posts are somehow replete with verbiage that the Six deem inappropriate, you will be notified by the men in black helicopters and be dealt with for your transgressions. Take heed my friend, the Six are always watching.

@cigrmaster- I work near a Cardiac Hospital which has helicopters coming and going. Now I'll be freaked out all the time.

Thanks for the calm discussion. Personally, I think there's a difference between the freedom to speak, and the belief that we must speak- but I can tell this is a subject which we would continue to disagree on, so I'm comfortable to just leave it there

Tarak, firstly we have to discuss the difference between "y'alll" and "all'yall". The nuances are important.
What I don't understand- if there's a "y'all", why isn't there a "w'all".
Example:
"Y'all should give your aged tins of tobacco to Tarak."
"Yeah, w'all do that today!"

"Y'all should give your aged tins of tobacco to Tarak."
"Yeah, w'all do that today!"
Didn't seem to me that the Hobbits' Weed guy took much offense to your comment. your comment did, however, have a negative connotation to it. Which to me, served no good purpose whatsoever, regardless of intent. Instead, you could have immediately mentioned the JFH mid earth blends: "If you like Hobbits Weed, maybe you should give JFH Mid Earth blends a try." Maybe the guy is a huge LOTR fan, and likes his Hobbits' Weed for its name. If that's the case, you could have just opened up the door for other kinds of tobacco by mentioning the JFH blends. If he likes it for the cherry taste, then maybe he wouldn't like the JFH blends, and would be more open to try the "Very Cherry" sampler from P&C (if it's still offered).
There were many blends that my grandpa smoked, that are not regarded very highly here. He liked Borkum Riff, Velvet, and Captain Black. Was it the best quality tobacco? No. Was there better stuff out there? Yes, in fact my dad used to buy him special tobacco for Christmas. Did my grandpa like the OTC blends he smoked? I can only assume so, since he kept buying the same handful of blends for years.
The point I'm trying to make, I guess, is that everyone is entitled to their own tastes and preferences. And, as pipe smokers, we are such a small minority, we should stick together. We are all brothers of the leaf, whether we like it flavored or not, with latakia or perique, or whatever.
