Agree that ABF is probably the best of it's kind out there. It really is something all to it's own. There is an underlying sweetness and nuttiness - almost makes me wonder if there isn't some kind of verrrrryyyy light flavoring added. At any rate, the taste is unbelievably good and there is no bite at all. Good stuff. Now look - you went and made me get the TAD going again - have to order some more!

I must say that to me it tastes like straw, but It's clear from this thread that its just me that's like that! Not keen on heavy burley blends, but I've had blends containing and they have been great. Have a tin of Aged Burley Flake nearly 3 years old, maybe when I hit 50 posts I'll think about putting in trades section!

I have had a few bowls of Big and Burley and it sure lives up to it's name. Not sure of the flavors. Maybe nutty and creamy would describe it but no matter what you call it, it most certainly is big!!! I like it.

I threw a tin of this in my order today to try something new from my obsession of Vas/VaPers. Finger's crossed I'll like it. :)

Solani ABF is the best straight burley going, for my money. I also enjoy Wessex slices and I still smoke my Kentucky Club, but the Solani ABF is tops.

I've been enjoying a tin of ABF latley as a proper intor to Burley and it is great!
Smells of chocloate milk! :) burns cool, tastes nutty, sweet and slightly like roasted cocoa.
I'll take a picture of a few flakes later if anyone is interested in seeing them. Very well cut and packaged too.

I've smoked a fair ammount of flake, never tried the cube cut method though so one of my remaining few will be cubed just to try it like that.
Fantastic stuff though, I highly recommend it.

Does anyone know what the release date was? I found one review from May 07 but I think the cutoff date to be grandfathered is Feb 07.

This is one of my fav's and if it goes away I might cry!

I absolutely LOVE Solani Aged Burley Flake... and I had never been an over-the-top burley guy. My affair with this one began with one of spc's tasting notes videos with Shane Ireland. Shane's writing and reviews always hit the mark for me and his efforts have caused me try things I might not have ever tried... like Wessex BVF fer instance... or, more apropos to the moment, Solani ABF. And it wasn't any of his descriptive extended verbage that caused me to try this one... it was this single magical moment in the video when he lights it up, and almost with just a hint of surprise and satisfaction, he pulls his pipe back for a split second and says something to the effect of "hmm-mm... that's GOOD!!"... like when you sit down to that uniquely excellent meal and take that first bite of the perfectly executed London Broil or what-have-you. Worked for me!! I ended up cellaring as much more as I could under budget restraints. But I thoroughly enjoy this one! Mmmmm! GOOD!!!

Does anyone know what the release date was?
There's a review on TR dated 3/13/07, which means it had to have been out a while.
The bill was passed in 2009 but the cut off date is February of 2007, make NO sense,
Of course it does when you remember that the bill is sometimes known as the "Marlboro Protection Act", and that it exists primarily to protect Big Tobacco from competition.

I cracked this open last night and had a bowl. It seemed to be too moist so I wasn't blown away.

So today I broke half a flake and I'm leaving to dry for a few hours, I'll let you know of the results.

A few hours later and it is just shy of bone dry. Packed easily, lit easily and has much more flavour than yesterday. Still, needs a few more bowls to "get it". :)

I am still trying to decide if this blend is for me after purchasing a tin a fortnight ago. One odd thing, when I rubbed out half of the flakes from the tin my fingers were heavily stained brown! I have never experienced this before rubbing out flakes. Sticky fingers yes but not stained fingers.
Regards,
Jay.

Solani ABF isn't bad, but I find Wessex Burley Slices to be smoother and richer in flavor. YMMV.
