Gardening, especially things you can eat - mostly heirloom fruit and vegetables and unusual stuff you can't buy most places, such as skirrets, salsify, achocha and so on. I also breed new varieties of potato raised from the seeds from the fruits that the flowers develop: out of 80+ new cultivars I've raised over the past few years, only two or three have proved really worth keeping, but that's not a bad average, the professionals say. My current project is to try and re-create a couple of potato varieties that were popular in the 19thC but seem to have become extinct in the early 20thC, from the seed of a third variety to which they were both closely related and which is still commercially available.
