My wife wants me to retire in the next few years.
So I’m looking for a hobby or two.
Definitely nothing that involves exercise and perspiration

At the moment it’s wine and food and smoking my pipes - not a great recipe for a healthy long life 😁

I guess those restrictions rule out an a "man vs. nature" survival tour of the Outback...

Probably also rules out wombat husbandry.

I don't know if I would call it a "hobby", but it certainly has taken up a lot of my time over the past 10 years.

I'm one of the over 70,000 people who signed up to buy a new Elio three wheeler. It does not look like they will ever be produced. The reasons why are too involved to go into here. A damn shame because it was such a great idea.

Anyway, to make it short, I'm one of the handful of would be buyers who refuses to give up and still am on the "owners" forum and trying to keep the idea alive. So, you might say my hobby is fighting for a lost cause. hahau

Straight razors, DE, natural and synthetic hones, and strops.

To a lesser degree- cigars, watches, pens, tie pins/cuff links and leather dress shoes.

Of course pipe smoking/collecting leads the way.

Interesting, I see several people here with a penchant for pens and wet shaving in some variety. You can add me in too! In my circles there’s actually a great cross-pollination - I met some of those guys through our interest in shaving, and then they started pipe smoking because of me.

These days I predominantly look for fountain-pens, and these days I mostly prefer single edge razors, a DE will crop up every now and then, or a nice ballpoint. I guess you could say I like beautiful old things that still provide great utility. Plus it’s a great sport to look for all of them them while thrifting. A good part of my enjoyment is nerding out on this stuff, doing the research, cleaning it and sort of spiffing it up a bit so it’s ready for another 50 or 100 years of use, then using it, or passing it along to a friend.

I also love HiFi (esp. headphones), I am building out my library which has now come to a couple thousand books, but that’s a different story altogether.
