I got laid off last night. Total bummer man. It was about 400 of us all together. I work with military spec wires and cable and didn't see this coming. My job also consisted with the new Boeing planes that just got shut down so we knew we were fucked before hand after they did there lay offs. I will bounce back but there are several really good people that worked with me that will not. And I shit you not I teared up for them. The world is changing guys. I hope we all come out on the other end

I'm not gonna lie jmill208, that's the only good words I've heard yet. My wife hated me working there so she's ok with it. I worked long hours six days a week, so she's happy I'm home now. My father is yelling at me to find a job anywhere right now. My great father in law is treating me like I just drowned six babies. If I try forunemployment I'm a fucking bum in his eyes. I'm under a lot of stress and scrutiny right now. I feel awful for thinking of myself right now while thousands of our brothers and sisters have paid the ultimate price. I feel so alone right now

Hang in there brother, this is the jacked up state of the world and not you that’s caused this situation.

Don’t let the criticism get you down because that’s just a bullshit thing to say to a guy who just got kicked in the teeth and I know exactly how “helpful” those comments are coming from a family member.

You will bounce back, you will survive this and get another job, and life will get better. I’d like to tell you it doesn’t suck but it absolutely does and probably will for a little while, BUT ... it will get better.

Smoke a pipe and let yourself off the hook a little bit. This was not your fault and there’s nothing you could’ve done to stop the airline industry from taking a beating for the ages!

Sorry to hear you're going through this. It probably won't help but I'll tell you what I told my sister when she got laid off 10 years ago and was stressing about taking unemployment. I pay my taxes partially so that I or someone who needs it can get a hand up (not hand out) when crap like his happens. Take the hand and get back up so you can keep going...to hell with what anybody else says about it. From your post you don't seem like the kind to take advantage of it.

Best wishes for your future.

You can't take or accept blame in this situation. What, you created the virus? And for goodness sakes, collect unemployment until you're back on your feet, it would be foolish and absurd to do otherwise. Unemployment was designed for people exactly in your situation and unfortunately, often gets abused. You collecting it would clearly not be abuse.

Best off luck moving forward. Keep a positive attitude and be a bit patient. Things will get better.

Sorry that this is happening to you and your family. As others have said try not to take on responsibility for things that you haven’t caused or have any control over. You are right, you will be okay in the long run, focus on that and the fact that this can be good for your wife and family. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Feel for ya.
I’ve been on furlough for over a month now. I imagine it won’t be long before they ask me to return.
I’ve been perfectly content to accept this long term vacation. I’ve been able to keep my health insurance and still collect a generous unemployment payment.

At the end of the day, and even at the beginning, the only opinion that really matters is your second half's.

You both talk about it and go from there. Anybody else can be taken with a grain of salt or ignored, unless they're paying your bills... and even then.

Hang in there and stay sharp!

Getting layed off isn’t your fault. Over more than 30 years in the aviation industry I’ve seen many outstanding people get layed off because of events beyond their control. It sucks, but things will get better. Move on and take it day by day. It will get better.

Take the unemployment to provide for your family and use the time to look for a better job. Odds are good you’ll end up in a better place than you started.

Best wishes to you and your compatriots. It’s a big world with more opportunities than we usually notice.

I am sorry to hear that news, I agree with others sentiment of applying for unemployment. This would be the reason we pay into it, to help when times are difficult. It doesn't mean that you have given up by accepting help, the contrary in fact, as it takes a big person to ask for help. Sometimes when a door closes a window opens is what my mother tells me when things have been difficult. I pray that you stay strong and vigalent as inevitably things will turn around.

This is not your fault. They need to understand that. If they cannot that is on them and F them. Your duty is to your wife and family. A man who works six days a week, long hours is allowed to take unemployment while needed.
I am lucky so far, my counterpart was furloughed, could have been me. I was not as lucky in the Great Recession and it was a rough time. I came through it and you will too. Hang in there and do what you have too.

Others opinions about you getting Unemployment are irrelevant. I wouldn't give them another thought. Those who are vexing can be blocked. Why talk to them?

I've been making hay with staying in the Present. The past has passed and is dead, gone, while the future is unknown. This is not rhetoric but fact, which means that they have no bearing in your life and in fact are irrelevant. Once this starts to make sense your purview is that which is directly in front of your face, and nothing more. In this space nothing unsafe is going on. All the framing of the past are gone because the past is gone, and all plans for the future are inapplicable, because they don't fit in the Present. Seeing this safety, relax into it and continue to affirm the Present.

Even a few minutes in the Present can reenergize hours.

How do the past and future that you feel require your involvement fit into the Present? Carefully- when you have established yourself in the Present. Remember that any intermixing in the past and future is completely virtual, occurring only in your mind. It is more than subjective, a projection intermixing with that which is dead or has not yet occurred. This is doubly shaky ground. Unfortunately it is a standard state for most of us unless established in the Present.
