I usually take a pinch of snuff nasally first thing in the morning. It helps wake me up more then a pipe does. I only take a pipe in the morning if I am on vacation and someone else is taking care of the coffee. I prefer to be more awake before I have my first pipe.
Though if I am having a bad bout of insomnia weirdly that's when a pipe and a travel mug of coffee is just perfect.

I think I still have some snuff kicking around somewhere. I'm going to have to try a pinch first thing in the morning and see what that does for me. Right now the hardest cigarettes to quit are the first with coffee, the ones those rare times when I go beyond a couple drinks, and after meals.

North Georgia mountains.
I wake at 4am every day. First pour over (2 cups) I drink without a pipe or any electronics or distractions. Usually by about 6 or 630, once the kids are ready and relaxing before school, I start in on my first bowl of the day. I prefer for this to be a smaller bowl and sometimes won't finish it until later that day. On weekends I'll smoke earlier, or sometimes later - just depends on my mood and weather. My morning bowl is the only bowl I smoke outside really. All other smokes are usually enjoyed inside.

For years on the ranch, I was up early, fill my coffee mug, lit my pipe and headed out to feed/check the cows and horses. Then return about 2 hours later for breakfast and another pipe. Now that I’m retired, I sleep in until 7. Grab a coffee and head to the deck with my pipe to think about what’s for breakfast.

Weekdays: Roll out of bed around 5 AM. Put on glasses and underwear. Go to kitchen. Start coffee pot. Prepare pipe. Put hearing aids in. Start a load of laundry. Pour coffee. Add milk. Sit down at kitchen table. Drink coffee. Light pipe. Turn on more light. Read Bible. Pray. Get up. Tamp and relight pipe as necessary. Prep breakfast and lunchbox. Feed cats on front porch. Put laundry in dryer. Wash dishes. Relight pipe. Remove hearing aids. Start getting ready. Shave head. Continue smoking pipe. Take shower (not smoking pipe). Get dressed, comb beard, etc. etc. Clean out pipe. Etc. Some mornings may vary, but generally same each day. Leave by 7:10. Try to get to work on time.

Before leaving for work. Around 6 o'clock in the morning. I smoke a pipe, usually a virginia, while drinking a black coffee from a pot on the fire. I love the sweet smell of virginias in the morning. Then at work, even in the morning, I smoke cigars, more discreet and comfortable to drive the truck, or work in the industrial building.

Personally I'm of the opinion nothing can really help you quit smoking cigarettes but willpower. The difference is cigarettes have so many chemicals added to them I think that's where a lot of the addiction comes from. Theres nothing that comes close to that cigarette feeling. I don't smoke a pipe or cigars all winter and I can take or leave chew snuff and snus all year round. It comes down to bonded nicotine (cigarettes) vs unbonded nicotine which is a process they use for cigarettes. Thats why you get that instant rush. Everything else kind of comes on slow

You're absolutely right, except for one thing. All the other things do help. The patches, gums, pills, pipes, snuff, cigars all help. None is a magic bullet that'll knock away the desire for a cigarette on its own, but they do help.

I wish I had a better spot than the garage, but the dog and I are up by 6:00 and he’s usually nosing the air comforted by the familiar aromas of Pegasus or Granger, strong coffee or a tea.
