Not in our building. Too many flammable materials. Out side I could but I'm too used to pipe smoking being product for relaxation. So smoking at work? The two don't mix.

I used to smoke in the office out in NJ and I certainly smoke in my office in Greenwich Village and almost always around the house during the day. If I couldn't smoke then no work would get down!

My entire working life I smoked at work. Beginning when I was a mfg rep in the jewelry business, I was on the road and smoked anywhere. Then I got into the car business and smoking was allowed indoors. Then in 1990 I opened my pool hall and everyone smoked in there. Finally I worked from my home and of course smoke in my house. Now I am officially retired, I still smoke in my house. Hell I remember being in the hospital and being allowed to smoke.

I remember smoking in hospitals, offices, court houses, shopping malls, and department stores. My kids don't believe me when I tell them.

chasing, my kids think it was disgusting being allowed to smoke in hospitals and airplanes and the like. Hell I remember being a smoker on an airplane and barely being able to breath.

I smoked at every job I ever had, and since then I've worked at home for over twenty-five years, smoking to my heart's content.
For nine years, I ran a comic book shop. The last year and a half I was there, the city passed a no smoking ordinance in businesses, but I noticed a loophole in the law. The ban didn't apply if there were less than three employees. We had two, so I smoked my pipe, like I really would stopped if there was no loop hole, lol. One day, some smart ass started giving me some crap about it, saying he could get the place shut down if he wanted to because I was smoking. I handed him the telephone and said, "Go ahead and call the city, and tell me where you're going to buy your comics from now on. And you can explain it to the people in shop before you leave." He mumbled he was only kidding me, but I knew better. He shut up and when he left, all the customers in the shop gave out a lot of laughter. A few called him a some choice names, too. :)

I worked outdoors, you could smoke whenever you wanted. Now I'm retired and I can smoke whenever I want also... :puffy:

I’m currently promoting my campaign all across my work campus, so far I’m just a one man army but I smoke my pipe and I hold up a picket sign that reads, “Rethink smoking in the workplace!” If I’m feeling brave I’ll chant that over and over, “rethink smoking in the workplace!”. Just imagine how much work we would get done if we could smoke at work! Hell, I wouldn’t take breaks if I could smoke at my desk and the cigarette smokers wouldn’t be outside every half an hour.
I was a mail carrier for almost 10 years and I have to say it was nice cause once I left the office for my route I could smoke anytime I wanted. I was actually well known for smoking a pipe with my people. Good times!

Or if we sat outside the head honchos' offices smoking our pipes non-stop, like the New York burghers of old did when the governor came with his smoking ban:

I'm lucky in that I work from home in my garage, so I can smoke whenever. Oddly though, I rarely smoke while I'm working because the constant picking up of the pipe slows down my keyboarding. I'm still not a clencher despite numerous attempts at becoming one.

James, do you have an AC unit in the garage? And this year ya might even need a heater in there! We’re having a real winter this time around.
Also, if ya don’t mind saying this on a public forum, what do you do?

I work for a municipality as well, and all the buildings are tobacco free (no smokeless tobacco either); as are the vehicles. There are individuals that work for the city that smoke cigarettes so they're expected to smoke on their designated union breaks/lunch; however, the city isn't so strict that if the person sneaks in a quick cigarette break here or there they're going to be in trouble unless it became a problem affecting their performance.
With that said, I work for the Police Dept. as an Animal Control Officer, so I have no scheduled breaks or lunch. I take breaks and lunch between calls. I have in the past carried a small pouch with some cigarillo's or a cob with some aromatic tobacco for those times between calls if I felt the need for a pipe or mini cigar. One of my Police Sgt. used to smoke cigars, so on those rare quiet days we would smoke a cigar together outside the station. Those days were few and far between though. Without knowing when the next call would be it makes it hard to smoke, so I usually only do it on the days I work nights when it's typically more quiet, and I felt I wouldn't be interrupted. I rarely smoke at work and typically only do so when I've been buried by a long report and need to escape the office and take a break from my computer.

I appreciate hearing from you all especially the one that works at the municipality I think we must be targets for the community sounds kind of like my job everybody wants to complain about the smoker but yet they do enjoy the smell of my pipe go figure sounds like the rest of you have it made retired and can smoke wherever you want or work at home and smoke wherever you want or I should say when you want that sounds great keep on puffing

I'm lucky in that I get to work at home. I also travel quite a lot which is great because I have found some pretty cool smoking lounges around the northwest.
