Smoking at Home Now Illegal for Many in San Rafael, Calif.

smokeybear, for people who smoke outdoors by habit, because they prefer it, it might be a non-issue,

although if the neighborhood is based on non-smoking, it might be a problem even outdoors, or

at least a problem of neighbor relations. Some pipe smokers smoke while they work, so this might not

be an outdoor thing. I have a problem with cherry-picking activities that are legal but locally forbidden.

It puts neighbors in a rule-enforcement mode, which is probably not what you'd want. For those who

feel comfortable with it, it's fine; no guests allowed who won't cooperate. I think it's iffy. It's partly

the letter of the rule, partly the spirit.

I mean i get it, but there are tons of ways around it, I like to smoke while i work and would love to be able to relax with a pipe while watching television i do see the perks to being able to smoke indoors and will admit that if my wife would allow it i would be the first to enjoy those perks, but i do have a backyard with a deck, a front porch and a work bench in the garage so i have alternatives. This is an issue to people who don't like being told what to do in there own homes and i get that totally its a bit extreme but its not the end of the world is all im saying.

smokeybear: You don't "get it." If you grew up a Canadian, intrusive government is all you know, of course you don't feel a sense of loss. We, on the other hand, have yet to adjust to the growing "nanny state." It'll take the U.S. a couple of generations to not feel the loss of freedom these needless intrusions bring. My great grand kids will not pine for freedoms they've never known. I've stated before, we get what we settle for.
And, it's obvious that you've never seen a winter in the mountains of northern California. It's a pretty decent sized state and it isn't all glorious beach. Not by a long shot! It can be sub-zero and covered in many feet of snow.

Wasn't long ago where the law was passed here that you can't smoke inside public places and patios at bars so I get it but it didn't take two generations to get over it, accept it and find alternative ways to do what you gotta do. There's many sides and reasons to this law passing I'm sure. Mainly because lots of complaints from non smokers and not many protests from the smokers there for in that sense the majority won and the government is acting on those people and there freedom. I just think your looking at this from one side.
Anyway in terms of freedom I'm entitled to my opinion just as much as you are so let's agree to disagree.
