I want to talk about pipe smoke, and how smokey it is, and how smokey it smells. I love how it's so....smokey.

There will be no philosophical discussions on this thread. Just smokiness. No current events discussion or political pun-ditting. In fact, there will be no opinions at all, about anything.

Just smoke. Smoke is awesome.

Do you have guns or knives? Those are manly things too, and may justify an indulgence on your lack of smokiness. Not that I'm now introducing religion to our smoke talk.

They are more hokey. I am curious about your smelling of smoky, is that a regional vernacular?

Over concern for manliness often denotes lack of. I am descended from Shawnee Indians and Kentucky mountain folk. I collect H&R shotguns and run a still in those same mountains.

I like how the smoke coming out of my mouth, the stem, and the bowl are all different colours. I appreciate highly the aroma of the smoke which lingers out of the stem.

Hmm, I don't know. "Smoky" means you like to wear smoks, and I'm not into that, but if you want to smell smoky, I'm OK with that. Just don't keep talking about it on my smokey thread.

Do you know of the expression, about smoke getting in ones eyes, to try to talk around the fact that one is actually crying from sentimentality? Do you feel that is a bit insulting to pipe smokers?

Yes I do. I guess I'm an old sentimental fool. I cry for many things, sometimes I weep for the world changing so: becoming a place where there is not gentleness for being a gentleman. Maybe I am just a nostalgic pipe dreamer but I can't be the only one!

I tend to associate smoke with wet or unseasoned wood burning.

As to my pipe makings, there is some smoke when lighting , but very little otherwise. Retrohaling for me is an almost non existent draw, just slow breathing.

"Smokey" = Latakia...to me.

I remember once visiting the log-cabin-style Sauna my grandfather built between his house and the woods back in the 1920s. It wasn't in use at the time. The changing room had the most intense and wonderful smell of lingering wood smoke ever, and looking into the sauna proper, even more so. That memory is with me to this day.
