On my quest to have at least one pipe from every single brand, it took me a while to acquire my first English ones. I don’t want to just get a random pipe, but I also don’t want to wait for a holy grail one… Dunhill was easy but quite expensive, since my first one was birth year spigot. Then came Charatan’s, of which I have 6 or 7 by now. Ashton, NortherBriars, Parker, Masta, Barling and Loewe - I have found at least one pipe that pleases me. Next is GBD - not a holy Grail but still a nice pipe. I have been focusing so much on Peterson and their intricacies, that I haven’t had much time to dive into the history of British brands(also procrastinating because they are all very complex and sometimes confusing)
Next will be Comoy’s and Sasieni, at least with those two I know where all my holy grails are - in @ssjones ’s collection

I forgot to add this new acquisition to this thread, a Beau Nash (2nd line) 9241 shape.
I recently scored this cool French GBD Rhodesian (it has no number stamps). The previous owner thought it might’ve been a shop display pipe because of the 1.25" diameter chamber (it was unsmoked at the time—the owner tried smoking it once and couldn’t keep it lit). I was expecting the pipe to be bigger like one of those old humongous Barling window display pipes, but it’s just that the bowl is oversized with a chamber that is wide. It would’ve been nice if it was still unsmoked and didn’t have the small rim chip. I’ll probably try a dense, slow burning, chunky blend in it. I love oddball pipes.
As seen above (and below in shots I just took), the only stamps are the GBD logo on the left side of the shank (and left side of the stem), and “MADE IN FRANCE” on the underside of the shank near the stem interface. There’s nothing stamped on the right side of the shank, just a small fill.
It’s a curiosity to be sure and a welcomed companion for my French GBD Churchwarden.
