Some recent Castello great line dublin acquisitions.

The middle one is an estate fiammata and the bottom is a 1982 sitter. The top and bottom weigh over 100g. Some people find them too heavy. I find them just right. They all smoke beautifully.

WoW, Very Nice! The piece on the top really does it for me. I see lots of spirals but that fluted(?) carving is very unique!

I met with Marco this weekend in Rome at Novelli. He confirmed that he had no idea what L stands for. He was stumped. And he is the master. And then he said something that blew me away, he said (paraphrase), ‘Castello does that sometimes.’ And he shrugged his shoulders. That was the kind of knowledge you get only from the horse’s mouth. The Castello lore goes deep in the collecting world.

First Castello, an Old Antiquari Pot. Due to the local bomb-cyclone, I probably won’t have a chance to take it out until tomorrow, but, for now, I am quite pleased. Aesthetically, I understand why folks say that a Castello pipe won’t be lonely for long. Now to find a shape 55 that I don’t despise looking at.

Just received this Castello great line collection pezzo unico dublin This gigantic chunk of briar weighs 207 grams! Obviously not a clencher or an everyday smoker. More of a "what is that wierdo spending his money on" kind of pipe. In a pinch, it would also be a pretty effective club!

Though I'd add a few more pics of the giant pipe to show some size comparisons. The Dunhill dublin in the first photo is a group 6. The Castello is actually very comfortable—and comforting—to hold. Smooth and fitted to the hand, like the stock of a rifle.

Alright, it took two weeks, but, I finally found a make of one of their more popular shapes that caught my eye. It’s a Castello ‘Castello’ KKKK Shape 55, with a silver military mount. The bowl twist sold me immediately, and while completely smooth isn’t a common thing for me, I still think it looks quite good.


Being a little over 5 inches, with a chamber diameter of .78, and a depth of 1.24 inches, and all together weighing only 30g, this is quite a small pipe. I know many of you adore/have experience with this shape, so I was wondering, I was looking to dedicate a pipe to Latakia-based blends, do you think that this pipe would do well for that, or should I have this pipe stick to my Virginias, like my other Castello? Also, surprisingly, I’m not looking for the sentiment that has been shared since time immemorial that you can smoke anything out of any pipe. I’m aware, we all are, I’m just shooting my shot.

The matte finish is interesting, and the stack shape is one I’ve been thinking about getting into lately. Maybe it used to have a wax finish on it?
