Here’s my latest Edward’s Algerian Briar #709 Pot.
It came to me covered with a thick coat of varnish, but varnish doesn’t stick to Algerian briar any better than cake does. I was able to bring this $20 delivered pipe back using nothing but 4/0 steel wool, Everclear, and grapeseed oil.

Old Algerian briar pipes must be smoked to be properly appreciated. The briar is soft, and it was difficult to polish and work:
