I agree Meerschaum would be more suitable for carving figures. Get the good stuff!

I like the idea of Meerschaum and I might do that in a couple of years but it's a little more expensive. Toker, you suggested pear wood. How does that smoke and is there a place that sells pre-drilled pear wood blocks?
