xrundog, So far the pipe has one bid at $75, but I see it going quite a bit higher. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Dunhill-1940-s-Shell-Pipe-Made-in-England-Pat-417574-34-/201285122091?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2edd87382b
By the way, the pipe looks to be a 1950 pipe rather than a 1940s pipe, right?

Congrats! That's a good looking pipe, you going to do the cleaning yourself? Looks to be in pretty good shape.

Probably not going to clean it myself beings I've never done any kind of work to a pipe. Does anyone have suggestions of really good pipe restorers that could fix this beauty up? I've been looking at walker briar works but want a few more options to choose from. feel free to post before and after pics of the pipes you've had restored by your suggestions. thanks in advance.

Nice pipe and should go very nice through the restoration. Have you already found a restoration service?

I've restored some pipes myself and can tell you that you can do it. You would just need a bit of oxy clean, magic eraser, and polishing stuff.
If you are interested I could do it just pm me. Below were a couple of the very first restores I've done.
