That is big news! I am also a big reader of history and have been developing a stronger interest for polar exploration over the last few years.
Shackleton, having abandoned reaching the South Pole on his second venture, when it was so close, solely because he knew his fellow expedition members (and him) would surely die, says a lot about his exceptional personality.

A really good read, that’s also a forensic mystery investigation is Fatal North by Bruce Henderson

Shackleton also set out for an 800 nautical miles sail in a 22 foot lifeboat with 5 fellow crew members (!!!) in the spring of 1916 to save his companions when Endurance was deemed lost after she got trapped in the ice. Can one only imagine the difficulty of this voyage in such a small, insignificant boat on the South Atlantic?
They actually managed to rescue the crew by reaching South Georgia island, where whaling stations were built, which is an incredible achievement of will, determination and respect for human life.
And, nowadays, people have quasi nervous breakdowns when they don't have connection on their smartphones or the employee at Starbucks put 2 instead of 1 sugar in their latte.
One thing is certain. They sure don't make them like this anymore.

I too loved the book, Endurance. Great read. Instead of inspiring me to read more history,. it led me down the explorer/travelogues. Skeletons on the Zahara was my favorite.
SWEET. I have an 18 hour day planned for tomorrow that involves 12 hours of driving and since the book lasts 13 hours it should all work out. I just bought the audiobook and downloaded it. Sounds like a good listen.

In an ironic way, the discovery puts more significance in the name of the ship, Endurance. That the crew made it out of this alive is astonishing. I wouldn't have expected them to give up, but I wouldn't have expected them to actually remain alive. I wonder how much finding the sunken ship depended on warming in the a Antarctica. The glaciers and ice sheets have changed in recent years. To be able to video or photograph the stern of the ship with the ship's name is amazing. Right side up, no less, and level. Shipshape?

yeah and look at how far people went in long boats and the theory on how people got to places like Easter island. That's the thing people adapt to whatever their situation is and feel like it's normal. If it's doing something incredibly dangerous and stupid or being attached to a device. It's our nature. People do what they have to and can't blame them for the fact that everythings connected now and super important to a lot of peoples survival both financially and socially. It's less a comment on them and more what situation we've made for our selves collectively. Also people where more accustomed to death it wasn't so as unthinkable to do dangerous things and not have modern safety standards.

I’m beyond giddy with excitement.

Reading about the Endurance when when I was a teenager started a love of history, exploration and reading non-fiction books.

You can have fantasy and sci-fi novels.

The Endurance was found!!

You’re just hoping there’s a few fantastic pipes in the wreckage to add to your collection, lol. Can’t fool us. I just knew there was something crazy to explain your collection. It’s all becoming clear now. ?

Amazing find. It will be interesting to follow the story as it develops and see if any artifacts are able to be retrieved.
