I am currently reading Endurance, by Lansing. It's a book that grips you right away and a smooth read that is hard to put down.
The book doesn't go into deep detail about, say, boiling pipes. However, it gives a decent account of what occurred and a few tobacco references (like the captain emphasizing only essentials be taken and dropping a gold plated lighter in the snow).
I enjoyed about half the book this morning (until the household awoke) with a pipe of Vanilla Roll Cake and bottomless cup of black coffee.
