Doc, make no mistake, he was right to be pissed and I think the security guard was an asshat.
I just had to point out this was like the 4th or 5th crazed story about security, law enforcement, psycho park ladies, etc.
They are an entertaining read, no doubt.
frankly he had the right to mind his own business.. soon all the ships and almost everywhere else you be none smoking becuase smokers are constantly infighting. anit-smoking folks hate all smokers of anything. pipe smokers hate anti smoking folks and cig & cigar smokers.

Whoa, @dochudson, a lot of us pipe smokers are also cigar (and cigarette) smokers. It's the puritan pipe smokers I can believe do not hold the love for cigar and cig smokers, though we still have the same problem: anti-smokers.
In the case of the cruise ship, I would've either minded my own business or lit up as well, though smoking a pipe on deck with winds is a tad tougher than usual. Wind caps are a nice and fairly necessary accessory at sea.

To those who questioned my strange encounters, Ya, I've been known to get into situations that seem extreme. Everyone who knows me understands what I mean.
My email signature used to read:

"It's not easy being me."
This past summer I was standing in line at Barnes and Noble checkout when I felt a sharp pain in my ass. I turned around and a 4 year old bit me in the ass. His mother laughed and said. "Oh Tommy. I told you to stop biting people." As I rubbed my ass I said. "You mean he's done this before?"

What with all of your endless encounters indiana I think a movie should be in the making about you. You don't perhaps carry a whip do you?

Unless my wife was allergic to smoke or an asthmatic, I would have left her alone.
Entertaining stories, though.

...she was of Spanish decent and speaking Spanish to a woman next to her
You don't mean to say "from Spanish decent" but "from Hispanic descent." The difference though is very important. I am from Spain myself and if you classed me as "Hispanic" I'd take offence. Just imagine someone classing you as of "British decent" just because of the fact you speak English.

You should direct your ire not at indianafrank but at the Oxford and Merriam Webster dictionaries, which define "hispanic" as of or relating to the people, speech, or culture of Spain.

"Ah, thank you for coming Mr. Security Guard! I am sorry to have be agitated but I was just diagnosed with severe asthma and as part of my treatment it was suggested that I swim and relax in warm salt air every day. When I saw this woman smoking it triggered a rather bad response and I was beginning to suffer from bronchospasm (like he would know what that is). I hope this dose not inconvenience the senorita but I would HATE to take this up with the president of the cruise line company. And what did you say your name was again???"

Tell that security guy you're 1/64 of native American and it's a very disrespectful thing for him to ask you to move and that if he refuses you'll curse him with ancient magic. Just saying.

Actually in the dictionary of Real Academia Española hispanic-hispánico,ca could mean Spainsh: (Del lat. Hispanĭcus).1. adj. Perteneciente o relativo a España. Which is logical since it's from Latin and we all know when America is discovered. :)

Post a link to this entry and I'll shave my beard. That is highly inaccurate. "Spaniard" is a term related to people coming from Spain whereas "Hispanic" is more related to individuals who can speak Spanish in South America.

"Hispano" and "Hispanic" don't mean the same thing. I am not Hispanic but Spanish.

OK, I just found out this is the case in the US, but the Oxford dictionary defines Hispanic as "A Spanish-speaking person, especially one of Latin American descent, living in the US."
I am not shaving my beard though. :)
