Nothing hurts like losing a pet. It rips the heart right out of you. I still have occasional flashbacks to when we put the nineteen year old cat down. Lord, that hurt.

Most of us have been in this situation, it's really very difficult and emotionally draining. 15 years, you did something right for sure. I did it last December on a dog I had for 19. I still think of him often especially when I have to bend over to pick up dropped items in the Kitchen.
Just think about this feral dogs live an average of two years. So every two years you gave that dog a lifetime. If he was a person they'd be several hundred years old. And think about what a wonderful charmed exsistence you gave him.

So sorry to hear this, Brian. We've been through it twice, and it doesn't get any easier. I think Dogs are one of natures miracles, and their undying faithfulness and love has made my life much much richer.
