I don't see many Stanwell sellers in the US anymore but I agree with Savinellis and also Petersons (I think the companies are related). It seems like some of the lines are popular but most of them seem kitschy to me.

We should start a petition for them to start making a line where the pipes are cased and have silver bands.

I love cased pipes like you, but only options seem to be estates and Turkish Meers.
Turkey seems to be the last bastion of case making for pipes.

Silver bands and spigots are a bit more commonplace.

Estates seem the best option for cased, silver-mounted pipes.
If you're up to smoking a dead man's pipe 😄

Bro, you really are my pipe brother. I just bought a 616 too (a used Punto Oro). Unfortunately I dropped it before even getting a chance to smoke it and the tenon broke and the brass dot fell off.

Also, you must have a strong jaw as I found it too long for its weight to clench comfortably.

Which line is this from? I silver banded 616 is exactly what I've been looking for.
Damn! It broke that easy?

Yes but to be fair it fell off of a shelf that was about 6' high and landed on tile. I freaked at first but it sounds like this is a common repair for any established repairman. Just a shame that I have to repair it when it was perfectly fine but that's life.

It’s a hefty chunk of wood, so unless it lands at an odd angle, damage to the bowl should be minimal

Tenon repairs are easily done.
At minimal cost usually

For whatever reason, the half bent Savenelli 616 doesn’t have or need a water trap. This makes it simple to clean.

Mine is an extraordinarily great smoker, likely the luck of the draw. But it means that a 616 is well designed and made from good, cured, briar. These are good pipes.

But I think I’ll start recommending a 616 to anybody who doesn’t have a pipe and wants one, or wants to give one to somebody they love.

For $96 it’s hard to see how the worst case is they have a hundred dollar pipe to leave in a drawer.:)
