I'm putting my faith in a classic e-Bay buyer personality to push the price over $6k... "The Drunken Collector"
"The Drunken Collector" is characterized by his or her methodical searches for specific items. In this instance they will have saved e-Bay searches for: "asieni", "sabieni", "abieni", "8 dot", "eight dot", "Sasieni", "fishtale", "patent", "Vintage Playboy". This buyer NEVER bids until the last 12 seconds of any auction, and when the bid goes in it goes in at a price which is rational, affordable, and never unhinged; unless drink is involved. Auctions that end on Friday or Saturday nights after 10pm are this buyer's nemesis. Remember that $495 Dunhill Cumberland? How about the $395 Comoy Blue Riband with an aftermarket band? Bourbon or Balvenie, Rot-gut or Rye (ok... same thing), The Drunken Collector can and will, randomly, swoop in like an avenging angel and place defoliating bids in the last 12 seconds of an auction.
Now I know this auction ends at about 12:30pm on a Sunday... but I still have faith that this buyer comes out of the woodwork on this auction.

PS - Prices have already eclipsed what I think is fair value for the pipes. So I'm not jumping into any gang bidding. Sorry Gigger.

Yes I did. My comment at the time was,"I was curious to see what this pre-war Sasieni sold for, which was $92.66. It will be interesting to see if it shows up again in six months or so with a stem with eight blue dots and no stinger..." Something that fit this description, and I make no claim on the originality, or not, of the stem, sold later the same day for $555.

I was watching that Prince "Asieni" along with Dave. It will be curious to see if it resurrects with the proper stem... You know what they say about Sasieni? = Don't make an Assieni out of you and me.
It is curious that Rodrigo ends his auctions at such odd times (Unlike Rescke, etc which typically chose Sunday PM). I think some good deals can be had because of this ending time. I snagged a $300 Howell estate last year for $125 that ended on a Saturday afternoon.

ssjones, I do so love those odd ending times. In the age of smartphones and tablets, strange ending times probably matter less than they used to, but they still can give some of us the occasional good deal.

MLC and I both win, cause the final sale price is over $6k Canadian.
So Peck... when do I get to come over and see them?

Very cool, I love that the set is a variation on shapes and finishes as it seems many 7 day sets are a collection of basically the same pipe. Wish I could have seen a pic of the GBD you described, but the one Sam posted was very pretty.

These were fun to watch. A real gem that I don't think we'll see the likes of for a bit.

I would be very nervous waiting for those to arrive in the post. Im still waiting for a Christmas card from a friend that never arrived, and he is a postman.
