What do the new tins and boxes look like post-warning label laws? I heard SG got around that?

He who plots alone plots best. But, I know some great fishing spots that are a lot more fun to enjoy WITH someone, rather than just by myself. I don't mind sharing some good info online to a few people, but I am not going to blab it to the whole world either. Balance.

Plenty of FVF, SJF etc available here in Blighty but for some reason I prefer the American version of those blends so I too am suffering from lack of supply.
Regards,
Jay.

What are the differences you find in them, Jay? I’ve never heard anyone say this about Gawith blends before. You have access to the Gawith Plugs over there, don’t you stock up on those?

I remember that someone had sent him some bulk FVF from the states, because he wanted to see if it was different. I had purchased some from the same source. He reported that it was different from what he was getting. But, at the same time, I don't think I had ever gotten such a bad batch of FVF as that one purchase. I am not sure that, that run is really a good exemplifier for US SG products. I have never heard that anything was different between their export and domestic products, and I am not sure why there would be.

My comment was tongue in cheek chaps. Crazy as it is, it's cheaper for me to source my FVF and SJF from the states than to buy it direct here in the UK.......and that is taking postage and packaging costs into account too!
The actual blends themselves are of course identical. Hope that clears that one up :D

Jay.

Woah. I missed all the Millennial hubbub, it seems. I am a Generation X'er, in my early 40s. How many folks are there in my age range here (mid career, kids in High School)? And the oldest Gawith I've had was a tin of FVF that I finished off a couple months ago from 2004. It didn't turn black, but got a lot darker and was covered with crystals to the point it looked like it was dipped in clear glitter. REALLY smooth and sweet. Now I want more, but alas...

In my experience the Gawiths have always seemed to be less consistent than other blends. Part of the charm I suppose.
I’d bet that any differences between US and UK sourcing would be due to how the shipment was stored along the way. This is extremely evident with beers brought over. Sitting in hot warehouses and shipping containers results in a very different flavor profile vs fresh and not abused.

On the consistency topic, I’ve always found Gawith to be pretty inconsistent with flakes, both in cut and in appearance, sometimes even in the same tin, with flakes of obviously different hues and bloom, even on fresh tins. I used to smoke a fair bit of Perfection and Squadron Leader, and found them to be pretty consistent, except for occasional moisture issues where the tobacco was really wet or fairly dry.

I love how someone fixed the uncapitalized "tobbaco's" but didn't remove the superfluous apostrophe.

No, the batch seemed really different from any other batch of FVF that I had bought also. I think the Gawiths were just having consistency issues.
Well that's true for sure, the batches vary sometimes

Hi

I just tried a few unique and wonderful tobacco blends under the label Captain Black. From White, Dark,Copper,Grape to Royal each blend is a delightful testament to the incredible quality of CB tobacco and the skill of the blending master, a perfect marriage equaled by few surpassed by none. G L Pease, Hearth & Home, Escoterica, Germaine, Samuel Gawith, C&D etc. could all learn a thing or two by studying under Prof.Captain Black. The problem now is how to keep these incredible blends off of the millennial horde's radar. They seem to be grabbing and storing pipe tobacco blends for posterity. THIS CANNOT STAND!!!!! Stop the millennial horde's actions!!!Keep Captain Black under the radar for the old FARTS!!!!
