Thanks for bumping this grouchydog. Great post.
What I enjoy also is seeing the old members who used to post quite often and are now rarely, if ever, seen.

Great thread I must have missed.
Ironically, I just cracked open a tin of this fine snuff today :)

Mike,
Where do you get your Sam Gawith snuff from? Are you in the U.S.?

i wonder how much one of those bricks cost, and now that i am thinking about it how long would it take to smoke a whole one of those pressed beauties.

What an extraordinary establishment it is and only around seventy miles from where I live so a visit may be possible one day.
An interesting article about SG with more photos here -

Thanks, Scarborian, this was a new one for me.
Does anyone know what kind of leaf this strip cut tobacco is?:

It's depicted in the Spaniards' report, as well, and said to be for snuff making especially.
Some kind of fire cured leaf, I suppose.

Those are stems, the midrib of the leaf. Could be from any kind of leaf.

Right, of course! I've seen some snuff recipes mentioning midrib.
Thanks, woodsroad!

As a keen amateur photographer I have to say those pictures are truly awful, but it was very interesting to see the place where so many great blends are made. S.G. should employ a professional to make a sequence of shots for their website, atmospherically lit. It would be a big job, but worth it I think. This link hits home how little there is to it, how natural real tobacco is.

Thanks for the link.
