I had a heavenly pipeful of SG Brown Sugar Flake yesterday... one of the last remaining flakes in my tin. It was just absolutely lovely! I cut the flakes into 3/8" chunks, then rubbed them out heartily. Probably could have used some drying time but I was just too urgent about getting to the smoke. There was that magnificent fullsome, dark molasses tempered sweetness of better mature Virginias... and a complexity thereof... with wafts of almost what struck me as dark-fired ky... and the occasional puff of a really rich brown sugar gliding lightly on the wings of the mature Virginias... absolutely not too much! Just right! The Queen was in her castle and all was right with the world!

I am so heartbroken that I missed getting at least one tin of this SG blend. Thank you for the descriptive words.

"Demerara Flake is the bulk version of Brown Sugar Flake."
Not so, Brown Sugar Flake is described as Burley, Cavendish, Oriental/Turkish and Virginia with no added flavourings, Demerara Flake on the other hand is described as Virginia and Cavendish with added demerara sugar for flavour.
Of the two I have only smoked Brown Sugar Flake and can report it is a great smoke, not a million miles from Solani 633.
Regards,
Jay.

Ooh-la-la. A Forums member kindly sent me not a sample but an entire tin of Brown Sugar Flake, another tin I'm salivating to open. I just don't like to get too many going at once, since I don't want to lose any open and closing jars in rotation. Currently have a number in steady rotation. But BSF sounds extraordinary, and I will look forward to savoring its unique flavor.

MSO489, Brown Sugar Flake is a very nice sweetish Virginia flake. Similar to Full Virginia Flake but like Golden Glow it has any rough edges nicely rounded off and makes for a great unadulterated Virginia smoke. Though coming from Kendal there is not the slightest whiff of 'Lakeland Essence' here.
I shall not hound you into cracking open your newly gifted tin...unless I still hear you saying years down the line "...well I have a tin of Brown Sugar Flake gifted to me back in 2016...)
Kudos to the chap who donated your tin, tobacco generosity appears to be rife in these parts :puffy:
Regards,
Jay.

Yes, this is a very special tobacco for sure. This was my review when it first came out and I purchased it from the Danish Pipe Shop. I also managed to get some from the brief period that Smoking Pipes had it in stock.
"Some of my favourite tobaccos are from Samuel Gawith, Full Virginia Flake and Best Brown Flake especially, so when this new offering became available, I had to try it. Wow, this is truly a wonderful creation from the collaboration between SG and the Danish Pipe Shop!
Full, delicious and sweet taste, yes brown sugar nuances for sure. Only requires about 30 minutes drying and then burns nice and slow with minimal relights. This looks like being promoted straight to the top of my favourites! Highly recommend to new and more experienced smokers."

Agreed. It's Awesome leaf... but it's dead :( there will be no more. It's so sad. This would've been a daily smoke for me. I have but 7 tins and apparently that's all I'll ever have

I need to try some of that. Been meaning to grab a tin. I LOVE Solani 633, a stellar va/per, but that's the only blend of theirs I've tried. I've heard the silver Flake is amazing as well.

A +1 on the Solani Aged Burley Flake! I don't have additionally 10-year aged but even fresh it was spectacular right out of the tin!!
Down to the last flake of SG Brown Sugar Flake here... terrible sigh... and calling it BSFlake just doesn't seem right.. even though there's a lot of BS and flakes around here!! yuk yuk
Carry on.
:D :puffy:
